Do you remember the song from the Sound of Music . . . "Raindrops on roses, whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens . . . these are a few of my favorite things . . . . "? Well, here's your chance to share what some of YOUR favorite things are. Things that bring a smile to your face. Things that make you feel cozy. Things that bring back warm memories. Things you like to collect. Things you like to do.
One of my favorite things is all things vanilla. ;D I like vanilla ice cream, vanilla cupcakes, vanilla frosting, vanilla cake, vanilla candles, white chocolate (okay, this might not be actually "vanilla" - but, close enough in my book . . lol).
Another of my favorite things is garage sales. :D I've had many posts through the years about garage sales and the things I've found, and things I've sold that I found at garage sales. Growing up, my mom always went to garage sales. To tell you the truth, I got tired of them and all the mix-matched things in our home she would have found in her garage sale travels.
Once I was married and had a child of my own, I found out how much money I could save buying gently used items from people who no longer wanted them, or needed them. Many, many times I would find brand new, tags still on, items for 25 c each. Can't find those bargains in the big box stores. I've had some great finds through the years and also made a little money on reselling some of my finds. Thanks Mom for practicing being thrifty and recycling items - I learned from the best!
Those are a few of MY favorite things . . . . what's YOURS?
Bucky
Nice thread Bucky! :)
I like singing - even although I don't have a great voice. Since retiring I have joined a Bluegrass group, a Folk group, an African drumming group, a Soul group and i still go to a women's choir I started going to 10 years ago.
I also like drama and scrap-booking and making cards and I recently joined a song-writing group. Keeps me busy but my house is a mess! I don't care!
Take care - Scottie :)

Sunsets and sunrises.....I'm a sucker for pretty
Actually, I'm going to switch the heading on this one, and say:
Happiness is . . . . . finding your cell phone that you lost while running errands yesterday (didn't discover this until I got home) . . . jumped back in the car and re-traced the stops I made and found it! Yay!! :D
Brilliant! Well done on remembering where you had been ;D

How fun! Don't know how I missed this one except that I've been so obsessed about SS symptoms, treatments, etc. And so tired.
Which brings to mind one of my favorite things: naps!
And I love the way the air smells after a summer rain, and the magical quality of the light when the sun breaks through a still-bruised sky. I love being awake before dawn and watching the sun set for the same reasons.
I love flannel pajamas and chenille robes with plush, furry socks in the winter.
I love the way my dog greets me as though she thought she'd lost me forever, whether I've been gone for a week or a trip to the store three miles away.
I love snuggling with my husband and watching him sleep.
Puppies, unexpected "volunteer" flowers in the garden, babies butts and chocolate. Or chocolate with peanut butter.
I love to laugh, and people who make me laugh.
And I love that I've found this group.
Thanks to all of you for sharing, for "listening,"
Retta
The set of 4 new tires we got for my car in the fall. They have handled all our snow wonderfully. :D
Thats good news Bucky. We bought snow tyres last year and they were worth every penny. However, believe it or not, we have had no more than a flurry of snow in Yorkshire so far this year. We have had non stop rain, and horrible winds. Some folks have lost their homes to flooding, but we have been safe, thank goodness.
Kathyx
I love the ocean and sunsets. I love resting and quiet time. I love to be loved.
Reading, TV, Pilates , theater (live) local or professional-small town, large town or broadway. Having breakfast with friends. I miss sewing and doing handwork. My grandchildren and their activities...and keeping in touch with lifetime friends. Playing bridge!
This will probably be at the top of my "favorite things" list . . . .
When family members, who all live under the same roof, pitch in and help without being asked to. I had laid down to take a short nap on Sunday and when I woke up, my dear hubby had washed up all the dishes by the sink that needed to be hand washed. ;D
I don't know how many times I tell "my boys" (husband and son) that doing little things like this means more to me than anything they can buy me as a gift from the store. Just help around the house without being asked.
Bucky
In no particular order:
My beautiful sons and husband
Music of all kinds
Cats
Wolves

Warm sun on my face

Hot chiles

cooking

The list is endless.
Oh, this is a fun one.
Some on my favorite things that make me happy: My family, snuggles with my kiddos, quiet time, warm comfy clothes, coffee, hot chocolate after playing in the snow, falling asleep on a beach in the sun ( haven't done this since I had children), the ocean, star gazing, exploring history, museums, tracing family history, helping my patients become mommies, looking through old photos. Wow, so much more-feeling happy and blessed! Thank you, Mary
Watching animals.
Tonight, I was watching our cat who was sitting in the backyard. Also watching our cat was a deer. It was so funny to see this deer inching closer and closer to the cat and then stomp its foot. I've seen the deer do this to the cats on several occasions. The cat usually just sits there and watches too and then finally gets up and leaves. LOL
I'd love for the cat to chase the deer just once. ;)

I love watching the birds splash around in the bird bath just outside the kitchen window. I have a whole pile of videos and still photos taken of several different varieties enjoying your baths. I even have a photo of a huge robin splashing around with several sparrows. My favourite past time. ;D. The bird bath is still covered up, so the birds are using the potholes in the back alley right now.
Carebear, I love watching the birds too! It was finally a nice "spring" day here on Saturday, and I saw my Blue Jay couple returned! I am so hopeful they have babies this year. Last year, the wind blew their nest out of the tree :(
I love my fur babies licking my face, and how they are excited when they see us. I love our little Yorkie cuddling in the bed with us.
I love seeing nature turning green with the warm days we are beginning to have.
I love watching the birds eating, and fussing with each other over their food.
I love the quiet evenings with my dear husband.
I love how it feels when I finally go to bed after I get really sleepy, and lay down.
I enjoy sewing a small project that looks pretty. I enjoy looking for free patterns for something I have in mind I would like to make.
I love sharing with people like you that - just understand-

A few of my favorite things: God, My Bible, My Family, Scrapbooking, My Friends, Sunshine and warmth!
I saw two beautiful butterflies today while I was struggling to get the simplest clean up down in the back yard. I felt it was an uplifting message directed at me, because butterflies are so rare here. And the robins are back too! Nature is one of my favourite things.
One of my favorite things - when it's late at night, everyone in the house (except me) is asleep and I go to the living room window and just look out into the sky with all the stars. I love looking at the stars.
Bucky
Bucky, I do the same thing.
I step out to see the dawn sky, and the twilight as well. I step outside to see the moon and/or the stars every night, almost without fail.
Sometimes in the middle of the night, especially in summer.
This makes me feel peaceful, and part of the universe.
A big robin was having a drink and splashing around in the bird bath last night. He was joined by a smalll and very brave little sparrow. Love those birds!
Clocking out at work this evening and not having to go back to work until Monday. :D
