Title: Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...la,la,la..
Post by: quietdynamics on December 10, 2013, 05:03:07 AM

Started snowing here in Central NJ along the Delaware River on Sunday...
Hurry, scurry...to pick up Granddaughter 5yrs earlier.
Learned the ABS brakes work well on the car (was my Mom's..and hardly used)

Granddaughter in bed, turn off the light near the window...glance out.
Hmmm wonder why DH parked at the end of the drive, covering the sidewalk?

Honeyyyy??  No slide marks in the driveway...did it roll?  Mystery.
"Oh the weather outside is frightful"....just pull it back up....lol.  Oh and maybe cut the wheels.

Granddaughter came in from school Monday.
Face red at the chin...hmmm?  Did you slide in the snow/slush?
"I ate it Grandma"  I did not ask "where".
Last year I scooped the new snow off the railing and made her a real snow cone..guess she remembered.

Thought I was dreaming this morning when we got the call that school is out...heard the message vaguely.
Thank you 'message replay'
So now I am quiet as a mouse.
Hoping Granddaughter 5yrs who crawled into bed with us...will sleep longer...sshhh, tippy toe about.

Not sure I will get the things I needed to do done today.
Think 'someone' will want to play, make real snow cones...hope she likes pomegranate juice ones?
Put newspaper on the floor by the door? It is going to be a wet, busy day.

So let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

How much snow do you have? Our flakes are coming down big and fat and sticking. Just in  time for me to leave for work. I actually forgot to buy snowmelt. Since I am not fond of snow I guess this qualifies as denial.

My teenage son has resisted buying boots despite my constant nagging. Wonder how much he will like having his feet soaking wet.

Life is calling and I am off to work. Stay warm everyone.

I have been awake for two hours...we have about 2 inches.
Flakes are big and fluffy...going to sweep the front and back with a broom

No snow boots...time to put a grocery bag on feet then into shoe...lol.

We have ice in Arkansas.  Schools out for three days.  Everyone is slip sliding around.

We would rather have had snow.  For all of those that do, please have fun in it for us.

Sorry to hear about your weather.. We were lucky here and didn't have it so bad. My boss texted me as I was leaving this morning and decided to close because the roads were bad. I got to enjoy a quiet day at home while my teen was stuck in school.

My energy level is low these days so I opted to nap part of the day away. I have not decorated for the holidays and have not pushed my son to get things out of storage. Christmas means spending energy I don't have. I'd be happy to plug in my ceramic tree and leave it at that.

hope everyone stays safe during the icy weather.

Ugh..when I lived further north in the state, at a higher altitude ...there were issues with ice, flooding of the streams and the cars, school buses managing the winding road up and over the "Montana Mountain" ...steep with a reservoir at the top, then down to a narrow flat plane of farmland/dairy bounded by the Delaware River..a mess with kids home for a few days. Often roads closed. Our snow storm usually come in Feb/March.

Granddaughter 5 yrs. had to clean her room before she was allowed to go out. Pick up those 'little things" that clog the vacuum. " I am tired". I said " I imagine you are..keep going so you can go out in the snow"..lol   Great motivator.
So happy we found "pink" snow bib/pants" for her...only took days and a number of stores.

We came in and "I" really needed a nap..time out.
I had just laid down. Door bell rang..."Ding-dong"  Yeah her friend and her Mom are here...3:30. groan.
Redressed her to go out back with her friend. Darn out of chocolate for "Hot chocolate"

Yeah she is invited to their home for an hour....lay down with book..but cannot sleep.

Later that night...granddaughter cannot sleep...rearrange blanket...say there, now you can have great dreams. She wakes late again in the night.  Maybe too much excitement.

Her face was so rosey cheeked when playing in the snow..that is the vision I hold...it was a long day and a longer night.

She had fun...and the snow is still here, with the sun shining.

 :) Sounds cozy!!!!

I love the snow...we get it so rarely here in the city (though there's PLENTY just an hour away in the mountains), and there's no equipment to handle it, so when it happens, the whole city just shuts down. Kids are all home for the day and can sled right down the middle of the streets, everybody bundles up and wanders around, cheerful for the unexpected holiday.

Several years ago, we got RECORD snow and a cold snap for a week before Christmas - it was the BEST CHRISTMAS EVER!!! Everything was cancelled - no rushing around, no craziness. The market 5 blocks away was open, so we could drag our sled over to get groceries.

I do feel bad for people who need to get someplace and can't, but for us it was magical. :)

Enjoy your SNOW DAY!!! :D

Cassi307 :  Wow! You have a great boss.
I work for corporate America. The weather person can say for everyone to stay off the roads but my company will expect us to come in. If we don't, it is considered an unscheduled absence and we only get a very limited amount of those. (That is why I have an FMLA.)

Weather is fine here in eastern Iowa. Temps in teens and 20s and very little snow expected so far.

I am retired from my job in the courts and now work part time at a church. We are a 3 person office so it has certain benefits. I seem to be in a flare period currently (just in time for Christmas) and they are being accommodating. At my last job we were expected at work even tho we had blizzard conditions. Calling in sick was a major crime. I do not miss it. You have my sympathy.

Not too much snow today but I worry about falling. Last night my teenage son was holding my arm the same way that I used to do for my mother when she began to have trouble walking. Actually can't wait for the upcoming 3 days of rain to wash away the ice and snow.

Stay safe everyone.

This is what memories are made of, for us.

Two weeks ago we took a drive to the small town we are wanting to move to - to look again at a couple of properties we have in mind.

It was mid week and it snowed over night, a nice dry snow.  We found a small bakery in town that serves breakfest and lunch. The building used to be the old drug store, they still had the back bar and counter but removed the barstools, had a creaky pine floor, tin ceiling, crown moulding, picture rails and awesome breakfest.  My kind of place.  Tons of character, I'm in heaven.

To make it better we saw that the hardware store had a lot of Christmas decorations in their front window.  A tradition we started some years ago was to buy a unique ornament every year to add to our tree.  From that alone we have memories galore.

We start out walking toward the hardware store and a very light snow begins to fall almost surreal.  Big full belly, bundled up with hats, gloves, and snow boots, sporting a new Christmas ornament and a very light snow.  What could be better ?  I draw on that feeling every time I am feeling overwhelmed with the stress of our hopefully, upcoming move.  It was absolutely magical.

Bad timing Mr. Snowman.

Kids back in school one day from winter break then this tonight?
Cloudy with snow. Low around 15F. Winds NNE at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of snow 90%. Snow accumulating 5 to 8 inches.

Hmm....is someone humming the Grinch song?

quiet - from what I hear on the news, those of you who live on the East coast are going to get snow, more snow, and more snow!!   :-\

Growing up, I lived in an eastern suburb of Cleveland, OH - in the snowbelt, were we would get all the lake effect snow from Lake Erie  . . . . we would get dumped on!  I don't miss those days (I now live in Central IL and we're usually lucky and the storms split right at the river and either head North to Chicago, or South to St. Louis).

The very first snow is always so pretty - if you are at home, looking out the window!   ;)  After that, I'm done with the snow and wouldn't mind one bit if we didn't have any more all winter long.

Connie - your visit to the small town bakery and the light snowfall sounds picture perfect.  I've always been a "small town" kind of gal.  To me, life seems more relaxed and laid back in a small town and the banker, grocer, pharmacist, and doctor know you by name.  :D

I hope none of you lose power and if you HAVE to be out driving in the snow, be careful.

Bucky

P.S. I believe it was YOU, quiet, that posted last month . . . "Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow . . . "  ;)

What big beautiful snowflakes are coming down....have been all day.

I am in Ohio and we will be getting 3-5 inches .

Had no place to be today so just sat back and looked out the sunroom window with cup of

hot green tea and watched the birds at the feeders.

Tomorrow?????????????? Need to be at my daughters to watch the grandkids for the day

they are still out on Christmas break and they need a sitter. Enjoy it I will.

But I am wondering what the 20 minutes drive will be like getting over there.

Here in eastern Iowa the temps are dropping so much that there is a wind chill warning for most of the state. It is worse in MN I heard with them cancelling schools on Monday. Just a dusting of snow here thankfully, but very cold.

The high will be -10 on Monday & close to that Tuesday with -25 at night, that is not the wind chill either. So far, they have not said they will close schools in my area but I know a couple of the rural schools are closed.

Schools will be closed in MN on Monday because of the cold.

Just noticed a news headline that says we are in for a Polar Vortex.................

I have no idea what it is but it sure does not sound good.

Batten down the hatches, put another log on the fire....

Yes, the artic air is coming from us in Canada.  Well, not "us".  Just from up here. :D

We have 24 inch windrows on street.  Kinda looks like the surface of the moon.  Tomorrow they finally start taking them away so we can drive safely down our street.  And just think.  We have at least four months of winter left!

I really was leery to even to open my eyes this morning..
It was supposed to snow again overnight. Seems it will now come later today.

We are snow, ice pellets, slushed out.

One thing to shovel light snow, but over the "has it been two weeks? More?"
This heavy stuff, and then coming down on top of ice that forms.. well.

State of Emergency..were there two?. Mayor set up stations so people can charge phones, for those who lost power.

Roofs buckling, some collapsing from the weight.

Mars meets Venus:
"Honey maybe this time instead of waiting for the snow to 'stop' it might be easier to do it in layers?"  But it fell heavy and a plowers looking for hire came by..even the truck was sliding in the driveway. It is not that long, but is a double.
"Mars scored"..LOL

* Son says last night he needs to  towed car and put it in the driveway.. where, is it dead??  :o

* Heard granddaughter calling in the snow.. her feet "are frozen" I shoveled and can't lift her..should I grab an arm and drag her, she is all padded and fluffy pink in her snow outfit, the back lower stairs are covered.. just slid her in ?
Better.. "Honey.. I need your help?"  All of this only took a few seconds.
Strip down, hot chocolate topped with whipped creamed and wrapped on the sofa.. she felt better..  ;)

There was sunshine yesterday, Friday and granddaughter did have school .. and so the weary rested.

Possible snow later today and next Tuesday.

This will likely not be the end, as during the thaw we are prone to flooding in the area, being along the Delaware River.

Oh QD,  Yes, another snow storm coming to the Northeast.  That was the same in the winter of 94, our last in the Boston area.  One storm after another, sometimes two in one week.  I drove everywhere in blizzards.  I just could NOT take it.

Now we were shut down for three days with the last snow storm, here in North Carolina.  I saw piles of snow from snow plows in parking lots, something I hadn't seen since we left Boston 20 years ago!.

Today we just got rain and a lots of it, which took out most of the snow.  That's what's coming your way as snow.  I don't want any more snow, thanks!

My daffodils are up 5 inches in the woods out back, and somewhere there are robins, I've seen them!  We're half way through February and by the end of March it will be SPRING I so decree!

Stay warm QD.

Hugs,  Elaine

Didn't make it to the concert.
DH went and on the way home they had closed the road, unless you have 4 wheel drive. So he made it.

He said it was a very good concert. I am happy he went.

More snow today. School delay. Blah.

There were an estimated 500,000 without power last week in the state.

Elaine.. daughter was born in March of 93'. I sat in the chair with my legs up and crossed praying.. Do not come now. That was a huge blizzard.
Son was little and jumped into the snow.. he sunk up to his arms.
Had to figure out how to pull him out with his sister ready to make her appearance soon.
He was so funny. " I can do it Mom" and he did!

Oh my goodness...when will this snow stop?  I cannot believe this - we live in the NE - on the border of NH/Mass...we have so much snow right now - the snowmobiles sink in the snow and the sledding is horrible because there is too much snow! I have missed so many drs appts now in the last months because my little munchkins school keeps cancelling, delaying, getting out early!  They got out today at 11:30!!!!!  Although I LOATHE the extreme heat, I look forward to no more snow soon!!!!
