Title: Lipiflow for dry eye. Has anyone had this?
Post by: ohiolady on November 20, 2013, 04:41:30 PM
My eye doctor mentioned Lipiflow at my last appointment.  It works to unclog the oil glands and results last for a year.  It is expensive and not covered by insurance, but I have read people have good results.

Does anyone have experience with Lipiflow?

Thanks,

Anna

I've never heard or this treatment so I googled it and couldn't find much - including their website which is meant for the layman.

I looked it up on pubmed and found a few articles, all of which appear to find the treatment effective. What I can't tell is who funded this research. But it does look promising. If you do have it, please post back and let us know how it goes.

Skylar,

I winter in Florida and won't return to Ohio until spring.  At this point, I am contemplating a consultation to see if I am a candidate.  If I have the procedure, I will definitely post results.  I have been surprised no one on the board has mentioned it.  I have been on this board for five years and have noticed people discussing their dry eyes less and less.
It seems odd considering the hallmark symptoms are dry eyes and mouth.

I appreciate your response.

I have not heard of this treatment and curious about the results. Let us know if you have good results.

You wrote that people mentioned less and less about dry eyes. I have searched endlessly for something that would drasticly help with the dry eyes and have just about given up. I'm not sure if that is how others feel or not. I think that I have tried everything except having eye drops made from my own blood but I would have to travel many miles to have that done and it would have to be done on a regular basis not to mention the cost.

Dry eyes, mouth, nose and skin are terrible and all the other things that go with it.

I hope you get good results.

I am going to mention this to my eye dr at my next appt.

Is this considered invasive?

or is it just a medication put in the eye and flushed out?

oo thats interesting, I will ask my eye doc about it. Has anyone ever been on provera, I know its a scary drug. But a few weeks ago I was having some bleeding issues and my OBG prescribed it for me, since taking it my eyes are moist and I dont notice a dry mouth so much only when I am sleeping. It is a type of synthetic hormone, makes me wonder if hormones out of whack can cause dryness.

Seasons right , there are lots of us with the dry issues, but as most of us have tried everything that we has been recommended. ,
yet we are still awaiting the miracle cure. We just wait until someday, someone comes on here and tells us of another new product. Yes we are definately still suffering, so please ,those who try this Lipaflow, let us know about it .  Dolly
