I learned last night that taking an antibiotic can cause a pain flair if you are experiencing a bacteria infection. I know that bacteria tends to school like fish. When hit with the antibiotic it broke into smaller groups and found every place that I sustained an injury in the past.
Today, I now have a case of strep throat. The doctor thought that it may be a strep infection in my foot. I am back on twice the normal dose of antibiotics for another two weeks.
Dear Joe - so very to hear about your infection. I know when my body is hit with any infection at all - my whole body reacts negatively...it really stinks.
Hoping the antibiotics can calm everything down once your body gets used to them and does it rebelling.
Sending healing thoughts and prayers your way.
Thank you. What I found interesting was that it triggered a flair. I have been doing well for some time before this. I know that some times a flair is triggered with an allergic reaction and taking an anti-histamine will put down the flair.
I wonder who knows what triggers their flairs and what will put them down.
Joe - interesting you should talk about antihistamines...I have been taking either benadryl or zyrtec when feeling really crappy because I read on another forum that some folks do this who have lupus and it helps calm things down, exactly why and how I do not know...maybe the histamine calms the whole immune system??? Some days it seems to help me, other days like yesterday - it was an epic failure as my ten year old would say!
Hang in there.
It's called a Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction. Lyme patients deal with it all the time.

Ah, I just found out I have e coli, and apparently lots of it. (My husband says I always have to be exceptional, even with things like this).
Anyway, agree with the advice in the article to drink lots of water. I received that advice from the PA yesterday and started Cipro last night. I went to the bathroom a lot, but felt much better by this morning.
My physical therapists have also recommended drinking lots of water for flushing toxins. Good news, it's inexpensive, just have to be sure your sodium levels don't drop too much (which can cause heart palpitations and other not good things). I actually eat a little salt straight off of a spoon when drinking tons of water, it works.
SjoGirl .. I hope you are using sea salt or Real Salt?? No table salt?
An interesting article Jazzlover. I had heard of this reaction in relation to arthritis but never a name for it before. This was the first time that I was able to recognize a flair being triggered by an antibiotic.
It appears that I have a form of strep in my toe. It does produce toxins. I am mixing therapies to improve my results. I am using my foot patches to reduce that toxins in my system. I am using frequencies to help kill the bacteria. I am on my second round of oral cefuroxime axetil at double normal dose. The dose is twice a day but less than 1/2 of what I was receiving in the hospital. In the hospital it was an IV dose every 4 hours.
I did not realize how serious this infection was until this second round when I spent a bit longer talking with the infection doctor who has been very good. There are some side effects to this high dosage of antibiotics that required a stool sample. Digestion is not very good also which is a good reason for supplements and probiotics.
SjoGirl if you drink lots of water supplementing with salt is a good idea. If you sip water you may not need to supplement with salt. My sodium levels are much better with sip swish and swallow than they are with drinking water.
Jazzlover, I use table salt, sea salt and Kosher salt. What issue is there with table salt?
