Title: Kinesiology Tape aka KT tape......have you used it?
Post by: SjoAmy on July 14, 2013, 05:44:36 PM
Just wondered how many of you have tried KT tape?

I have tried it with amazing results each time.  Supposed to increase circulation and decrease inflammation.  I use it a lot  for my cervical spine pain.  I use the Pro Version.

Anybody else use it?

I'm a physical therapist and frequently use this, both with my patients, and tried it on myself for my foot and heel pain. It did help me for that. I can't use it anywhere else because of my tape allergies. (When I was in training we practiced on each other and my back was red and raw for 2-3 weeks afterward!).

It has helped my patients with pain if it is due in part to weak muscles, edema or muscle spasm. It helps to a lesser extent if there is significant bony or joint deformity. Studies are still up in the air about its effectiveness and about how it helps edema and circulation. But anecdotal case studies have been promising.

You should use this with a rehab program to restore function to muscles and joints. Ask your doctor and Physical therapist about this. You or a caregiver can be taught how to correctly apply and remove the Kenisiotape. Be careful if you haven't been taught, applying it wrong can cause increased spasm, edema etc...too and taking it off wrong can cause bad skin injury. Also if you are allergic to adhesive, try a test strip and/ or be sure to get latex free tape.
