Folks, We prayed for rain for months and when it started we were thrilled. Now it is getting to be a little much. The farmer with fields next to our house got his beans planted on June 20th---about 1 month later than usual.
It has rained about every other day---sometimes everyday and sometimes a couple times a day. This morning our tomatoes were standing in water. We have never had this much water in our garden before.
I don't know how many inches we have had since it started but am afraid to ask. I do know that the weather man on TV said that between March and May(total of 3 months) there were 15 days of sunshine in the twin cities of MN. Just unreal. Any stories from the rest of you folks. Irish
We are way above average for this year, so far. We are 10 inches above normal. We've had lots of flash flooding the last couple of months.
Not right this minute, Irish, but LATER today we expect thunder showers (again).
It's always something, eh?
Hugs
Elaine
There is so much our road is flooded out and has been since about May, give or take with the days we get sun and we can get down it. My hubby gets down it with his 4x4 but some days are very very bad. They are looking at evacuations now. We aren't going yet.
Got another inch last night. I think that makes 8 or 9 in the past few weeks to a month.
4kids, May I ask what state you live in??? I bet you are feeling the humidity like we do. It is just terrible and with my myasthenia I just sit and sweat--in the house or out of the house. We have air but if I so much as get up and walk across the room I start to sweat. The sweat runs out of my head like water and has corroded the frames of my glasses. Really weird. My neuro says that people with myasthenia sweat big time. So I noticed!!!
I hope the weather gets better for all of you. It is supposed to be dryer for the next few days and the humidity is supposed to go down. I think the lakes were green and stinky before the first of June this year with all the rain and the warm enough temps. Always something new with the weather. No matter what we will complain!! IRish
Actually I am in Canada, right smack sort of in the middle of Saskatchewan. It is unseasonably cold with the rain and when it isn't raining it gets to be about 26 or 27 which is plenty warm for me cause we have no a/c in this house YET. ;)
We are tough guys. If I lived any further south I wouldn't be though. I can't take heat at all. Or bugs... Or snakes...
You may have heard about our horrible flooding here in Alberta. There are complete towns that are especially washed away. And tens of thousands of poor folks have been unable to return to their flooded homes since Friday. Bridges gone, highways gone. It is a public health nightmare.
Please think positive thoughts for our neighbours in Southern Alberta. I am afraid their lives will never be the same.
My sympathies Carebear. During Sandy so many in the southern part of my state lost homes and are still not back in. I am further north in the state but not far from the river. My neighbors in lower lying sections of the city were also flooded out. I live on higher ground so I was lucky. My agency provided help to many people during that time and the stories people told were heartbreaking. We were so much luckier than our southern neighbors but a catastrophe like flooding leaves deep scars.
Those affected in Canada are in my prayers as I send thoughts of support your way.
We are DRY in Texas. Wish we could take some of that rain from you! It looks so bad up North though. I feel bad for all of you that are having to deal with the constant rain. Stay dry!
Nancy
Flood watches all over the Buckeye state but mostly up north where I am.
Yep, rain is one of those 4-letter words along with heat and snow!! ;)
We've had a lot of rain here in Central IL too. Towns close to the IL River got flooded last month from all the rain. Lots of vehicles up to their windows in water, basements flooded, roadways flooded, the river waaaaay over it's banks.
This week alone, we've had 6 inches of rain! (5 inches in one day)
Last year, during our drought, we would have welcomed the rain with open arms. This year has more than made up for the drought of last year.
Many of the farmers fields are standing in water. :( Too late to replant this year. As always, it ends up being the ripple effect . . . farmers have lower yields, grocery prices go up.
Wish it was an simple as just "sending" the rain to the areas that need it. All those fires in CA, CO and TX where they needed rain and weren't getting any.
These extreme weather patterns are becoming more and more global. Who would ever think Alaska would have 94 degree weather in June?? :o
Stay safe everyone and heed the warnings if they are issued in your area.
Bucky
Yes, yes, yes...way too much rain here, just outside of Philadelphia Pa! Everyday for 5 days my hubby drove home from work in torrential downpours and could not enjoy any sunny, out door weather. My vegies and some flowers are suffering from "root rot" from too much rain.
Yesterday we got lucky....no rain, but today it rained and ruined any outdoor plans and it is predicted to rain at least some every day for the next 10 days!!! Some are to be very heavy too....we are saying enough already!! And the poor people in the western half of the country are too hot and dry!
Please, send some out West. We just lost 19 wild-firefighters in Arizona. :'(
Sharon
slccom,
I just heard this terrible news about the firefighters. Such an awful tragedy. My thoughts are with all the families involved.
The heat in the west is unbelievable and I hear will be record-breaking today. Take care!
Melinda
The firefighters put their life on the line for us. What a tragedy.
And here we had 5 inches of rain in the area, over the weekend!
What next? Raining frogs?
Elaine
I'm an hour south of you Carolina, and my current joke of the month is this, if we get anymore rain, we are all going to have to build an Ark to live in!
We are all sick of the rain here!
Terrible flooding in Chapel Hill, NC. Forty people had to be evacuated. One gal lost everything in her apartment, including her car.

I can't resist -- did she really keep the car in her apartment?
Seriously, that is so hard. I hope she had renter's insurance.

"rain rain go away, come again another day" here in MD
We're supposed to have rain here, off and on for the next 4 days. Flash flood watches already issued.
The Firefighter's loss was very sad news. My thought and prayers to them and their families. True Heroes.
Yes, rain, rain, rain and more rain. Yesterday we were in the area in the NE where they thought there may be tornadoes the weather was so bizarre.
Hoping for some sun soon - kiddos are getting restless. Went to Chuck E Cheese last week and the movies, bored this week - movies here and games...uugghhh!!!!
My question is will it stop raining? Yes, we might need that ark soon. LOL CK
OK, it is NEVER GOING TO STOP raining, I've decided.
Two inches this week already, and two over the weekend on our deck, but 5 in a nearby town.
Enough already!
Elaine
Still raining here too. >:(
I rested today to stay up late enough to take my daughter to go see fireworks tonight. I hope they aren't cancelled!
They have already cancelled all our fireworks everywhere for tomorrow due to the rain still expected all day tomorrow as well. :(
We have had our share of rain in Central Indiana~ I showed over an inch just since sunday. Funny last year fireworks cancelled because of NO rain and this year a good chance they will be cancelled because OF rain. So far I have not lost veggies or flowers because of the wet cooler weather. Hopefully July will take it easy on us. ;D Happy 4th of July everyone ~
The sun is actually out this am..... hardly recognize it. LOL Happy 4th everyone. CK
Where you at Little Iowa? I am in Eastern Iowa and thankfully, we've had a great 4th weekend so far. No rain! ;D
We are finally getting a week of nice weather here in Eastern Iowa. For this week only at 10% chance of rain and temps in 80s. Though might get humid later this week. We all were getting sooo tired of the rain.
Odd cause last year we were in a drought situation in the Midwest. ::)
Yes!
And for the foreseeable future.
We did have 6 unbroken days of wonderful weather at the beach last week, in SC.
That was amazing.
Elaine
Yesterday early morning we had a "gully washer" as they call it. We had 3 1/2 inches of rain and the fields have a lot of standiing water. FAribault in Rice country had 8 inches in 4 hours and Steele Country had about 5+ inches in 4 hours. This area is in flood warning because the Cannon River goes through the area. Man, we have had so much rain in southern MN since the drought ended. If it wasn't for the weather what would we complain about.
Hopefully, the tomatoes will do better this year with this rain. Irish
We're growing mold.
sigh
Elaine
If only we could share that water!
Sharon, in parched Colorado
oh just wait,
in a few years it will be floods in Colorado (actually that doesn't sound possible) and drought again in North Carolina.
It all evens out over the entire country or world I suppose?
Is this global warming?
what?
Elaine
funny how we were just talking about all the rain people had back in June and July~ It has been 21 days now without rain here in central Indiana ~ boy do we need it,corn is in bad shape.
star, Are you having all the heat lately??? We are still hot here in MN but it is supposed to cool down sometimes this weekend. It even clouded up today for a few hours and while I was at the hospital we were all watching to see if it would rain and cool off. No such luck---the sun came out again.
We are getting dry here also. Funny how one can have so much rain and then the earth can dry out so fast and get big cracks. Good luck in the rain department. IRish
we did have a few weeks of the 90s and very dry. Last weekend we did have some rain under an inch though. Corn and soybeans are hurting.
Some friends of mine vacation in MN a few weeks back ~ said it was kind of chilly a few days out on the lake and the fishing was not so good either. Too chilly for the fish ??
Fall is in the air tonight~ ;D
We got 7+ inches of rain yesterday. Here in North Florida we've been getting rain most days. This weekend we're supposed to get a break from the heat with temps in the upper 80's.
Looking forward to some cooler weather. :P
Shade
Oh, it stopped raining over two weeks ago.
Humidity cleared, cooler and sunny, perfect weather for two weeks.
Just a bit of rain at night (sort of like Camelot!)
Elaine
First rain in weeks. Pouring down today. I would love to be back in bed sleeping in this weather. Cooling down a bit also.
Jennifer
We have been so dry again this past month or so. The temperatures have finally moderated and it is cooler, except for a couple of really muggy days in the 70's when we had to have the air conditioner on.
It is cooler today with some sun and cooler days are to come. The trees are supposed to be beautiful this fall so I am looking forward to that. Fall is my favorite season. Irish
Irish the trees wre losng their leaves in northern England but the colours are beautiful. I like fall but prefer new beginnings in spri.g. Kxu
