Hi,
I have been on prednisone for about a year now, but am down to 4 mg and dropping each week. My arms have itched the last week or so and I don't scratch much because it isn't too bad. However, I have been bruising awful on my forearms from nothing at all it seems. These bruises are ugly and more of a deep red than purple. I hate to wear short sleeves because it looks awful. I don't think 4 mg of prednisone would cause this when 20 mg didn't. Does anybody have any ideas as to what could be causing this bruising-anybody experienced this?
Thanks for replies!

I, too, bruise easily but was told it was because I am anemic. I take iron supplements. You should get it checked out though. Easy bruising can mean so many things or it can mean nothing at all other than you have sensitive skin that bruises easily.
Some bruising can be a sign of some types of cancer, not to scare you. Some medications can also cause you to bruise easier.
Like I said, probably should call the dr and make an appt to go in to be checked. They may want to order some simple bloodwork just to check a few things.
Take care.
I would not expect 4mg of pred to cause bruising, I only experienced bruising on pred at about 50mg. It's a side effect that stopped very quickly as I tapered.
I guess a visit to the doc wouldn't go wrong for some bloodwork.
Hi :)
I think you should try to get the bruising checked out by a haematologist.
Do you take any NSAIDs? I had to stop taking them because of unexplained bruising. I went to a haematologist and it was him who told me to stop.
Hope you find the cause.
Take care - Scottie :)
I too bruise easily, but also have autoimmune anemia. Agree that it is best to have a doc check it out.
