Title: Hubby and I need your input.
Post by: penelopeclark on May 21, 2013, 09:05:56 AM
Hi Guys. My husband and I were wondering if you could lend your thoughts on this.  okay I went to the lung dr.. they drew blood to test for emthezema and sarcoidis. andother things ( They took 7 viles) I have a stress test this Friday and the 30th they want to do the biopsy of my lung.
In the mean time they put me on symbicort which has been helping me a lot.

The lung dr was... well he was a jerk. he had me upset and crying the whole time.. he yelled t me and treated me badly. he also treated my daughter badly and my sister and when we told him bout having this same event happen in 2011 he said it wasn't the same.

we said well it was the same pain and the same location and reacted the same and he told us that we were " making it up" so basicly he accused us of lying. When my sister asked him if there was anything like prednisone with out side bad effects that could help me while all the testing is being done he yelled at us about prednisone and she said we know

I asked if there was something else and he looked at her rolled his eyes and went back to writing down notes!
he had all three of us upset all weekend.

My husband and I are concerned about him doing the biopsy. if I cant trust him while im in control how can I trust him when Im not... we wish to look for a new lung dr.  But we want the blood test results and stress test results back before we do any biopsy.

My husband is also concerned that with me getting state issued insurance they will have me do unneeded test  just to get the money.

is it okay for us to ask for the test results first and get a new lung dr? what is your thoughts please

Penelope,
So sorry you're going through this.
Yes.  Absolutely.  If you can, get another doctor.  I've no problem with a doctor being blunt and realistic.  In fact I prefer the straight approach.  However,  I do have a problem with arrogance, condescension, and verbal abuse.
I refuse to be talked to that way by anyone let alone by a doctor.

He is there to help you and most importantly he is getting paid to do that.    Fire him and find someone else ASAP.  Why would you consider letting someone so obviously unprofessional to do anything to you (biopsy)?

You are in my thoughts.  I hope you get an answer for you lung troubles soon. :)

A doctor should never, ever yell at you or tell you that you are making symptoms up!  So unprofessional.  I would get a new doctor.

Most definitely find a new lung doctor and request your result be sent to this new doc.  There isn't any reason to even see the old lung doctor again.  I hope you find answers and start to feel better soon.

Your medical reports are legally yours. You have every right to have them. Do not allow him to say he will give them to another md. Run, do not walk, away from any md who treats you this way. Take control and go find another md. I would not let someone,Ike him touch me again if I were you. I would not be able to trust him.

Good luck,

Ditto...to everyone.

Absolutely find another doctor. And those records are yours. I have a binder with a copy of every doctor's visit (from every kind of doc) I have; lab reports, Xray reports, etc.
It helps to be able to answer questions (with my poor memory issues), but if I ever needed to go to an ER for something and could not reach my doc(s), I have my binder with
everything for any doc to see.

I won't allow any doctor to treat me the way that you described, I hope you don't either.

Take Care.

Did the dr get mad when you asked for copies of all those things because when we read your post lights went off in my hubbys head lol he said " Babe that's what you need to do so you feel more in control of your stuff" and I agree I need to steal your idea and do that.

Oh good news I talked to the social worker at the cancer center.. told her what happened.. she told me that she has heard this before about this lung dr and so she is writing a report against him.. and she found me a new lung dr in bennington VT totally different area from the hospital.

This new guy called me a few minutes ago and I said " Sometimes dr order test because they feel they have to or some even for money when they know the insurance is a  deffinant pay. Lets make a visit and ill check out all your test and records...

and see if you need the biopsy. if you do w will do it and of not we will take it from there.
I almost asked him to marry e roflol

I'm SO glad you've found a new Doctor. There is NO WAY I would've let the first Dr anywhere near me with a knife.

Hope you find answers and feel better soon.

Penelope,

I haven't had any doctor get mad at my request for my records. I have had office staff say they need to know what doctor to send them to, and I am insistent that I have a right to have a copy of all of my health records. Just request copies of all office visits; lab/bloodwork and Xray results. Sometimes they might tell you that you have to pay for copying costs.. The good docs will really appreciate it when you have a binder with all of your health info.  ;)

Good luck Penelope. I am glad you found a new doc.

Wonderful news.  This new doc sound like a keeper and the social worker sounds like is a gem too.   It is nice when things fall into place.  Good luck with the new doc.

Penelope so glad you have a social worker on your side and especially that she will be writing a complaint against that obnoxious md.

Go get copies of your records from him and do not take no for an answer. I once had an md say that they will only send them to the next md but I knew better.

Hope the new guy is a gem.

I would write a letter about him to the administrator. If there are others that have had this experience, have them write letters in there own words to the administrator.

I had an eye doctor that did this. I was not the first to complain. On my next visit, they required him not to be alone with any patients. I left after my third visit.

You have a right to your medical records. You need to make the request in writing.  Simply state that you are requesting a copy of your entire medical record including all test and lab reports and have them sent to your home address. They cannot deny you this. You will probably have to pay a fee, I've paid $50 at the most.  They are allowed to charge a fee to gather, copy and send the info you request. I ask for copies of any tests or specialist reports for my personal record and never had a problem.
