I have been dealinh with bumps and sores on my tongue and the roof of my mouth and sometimes even my gums... its very painful to eat or drink anything.... does anybody have this problem? If so what do u do to fix it?...
Hi :)
Have you seen your Doctor or dentist about it? I don't know what can cause it or what it is. A dental neurologist who did a mouth biopsy on me dxd lichen planus and prescribed a steroid mouthwash. Obviously that would be not good for other causes. You need to identify the cause. Maybe it's SjS but it could well be something else.
Take care - Scottie :)
Sip, swish and swallow. I hope it clears up for you soon. Have your doctor/dentist check you for thrush.
It depends on what's causing the sores, but I get lupus ulcers, and my rheumy prescribed a mouthwash with lidocaine and some sort of steroid (I think) in it.
Try B-12?

Karlys Granny, I frequently get sores on my tongue and ulcers in my mouth. It is mainly caused by the lack of saliva, and our mouth becoming very sensitive. It is vital to have good dental hygiene, and I find that sweet foods are the main culprit with me, and I do love my cakes and biscuits etc'.
If your mouth is dry ask Doc or Chemist for Oralbalance gel , which is a replacement saliva.
Also brush teeth and tongue with a small amount of good toothpaste (without laurellate sulphate) not sure of spelling.
I use a new toothpaste here in the UK called Corsodyl Daily also the mouthwash, there is a stronger Corsodyl Mouth Wash too. You would be wise to see your dentast or Doctor in case of an underlying condition too.
It's really trial and error with this condition. There are many sites explaining this condition.

You might have a fungal infection in your mouth, tongue, and throat. An autoimmune disease can allow the normal yeast we have on our skin to grow unchecked. This is how I got diagnosed with Sjogren's. It hurt even to swallow water. It is miserable, so I hope you can get some help.
I took a five six day course of Diflucan which made the sores go away. To prevent a reoccurance, I would suck on a Clotrimazole lozenge twice a day, then once a day, and now once every-other day (both drugs require prescriptions). I haven't had an infection since.
If you want to, discuss this option with your doctor. It changed everything for me. Good luck!

You may have oral thrush and if you do you will need a prescription mouth "swish" wash to get rid of it. I have had it twice in the last year. Unfortunately, when you do not have enough saliva in your mouth, more bacteria will grow and potentially cause infections.
It is worth a trip to the drs to have it looked at - and you may need oral antibiotics as well.
Hey, I found this when looking for my itching:
This addresses the SORE TONGUE, by the way:
Abstract
The major mucous membrane and cutaneous manifestation of Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is xerosis. Severe dryness of the eyes, mouth, nasal passage, and vagina produce many annoying symptoms, including photophobia, burning and itching of the eyes, alterations in taste and smell, recurring nonallergic bacterial sinusitis rhinitis, and dysparunia. SS patients frequently complain of dryness of lips and soreness and a burning sensation of the tongue and oral mucosa. SS patients also complain of dryness of their hair and note a decrease in luster, and severe dryness of the skin is frequently accompanied by pruritus.

Biotene toothpaste and mouthwash. Stay away from very salty items or even salt at all. Take folic acid once a day. I used to get mouth sores once a week and now I have been sore free for 1 month. The problem with the biotene I have found is that my mouth still doesn't feel clean and I am too scared to try another product since this is working. So I brush 4-5 times a day now to try and keep nasty breath away.
Just wondering Jessiblah--
Does brushing so often wear on your enamel? There was a guy I used to work with who brushed many times a day and his dentist told him that he damaged the enamel on his teeth. Can you use some kind of oral swab in place of brushing one of those times?
I have had exactly the same thing, and right where you said. I used the swish and swallow or some call it miracle mouth wash. It helped me some by the next day.
susanep :)
Try NeutraSal several times a day. Your doc will need to write an RX for it.
I agree with those who suggested you see your doctor or dentist. My hematologist is watching me for lymphoma, which I have avoided so far, and he asks about mouth sores at every appointment. It seems like something that could be minor or not and getting an actual diagnosis would be a good idea.

Definitely see a professional. I was complaining for years to my dentist and endodontist but my lichen planus (an autoimmune disease to add to my collection) was diagnosed and treated by my dermatologist.
I find almost all toothpastes too irritating for my mouth - even Biotene and others that claim to be gentle. The only toothpaste I can use, and I actually enjoy using it is Squigle Tooth Builder toothpaste which I buy on line - the cheapest I've found it is DermStore.
I also sadly eliminated things like chipotle sauce and other irritating spices from my diet. I also worry that if something is burning my mouth, perhaps it's also irritating the rest of my digestive tract which isn't a good thing.
Hope you find some relief soon.
I'm with you....sometimes my mouth is so raw that toothpaste burns. I have to be careful eating toast or potato chips in case I scratch or gouge my gums. Haven't noticed any thrush.
I don't know I will have to ask my dentist. I don't brush very hard because my gums are so sensitive. I was just at the dentist and he didn't mention anything of the enamel.
