Just curious- has anyone tried accupuncture to help manage symptoms such as pain? What kind of feedback can you provide?
Tried it for several sessions and didn't see any change. But acupuncturists are only as good as their training and interpretation. I wasn't impressed with mine. If I had the $ and access I would give it more of a try. Only one part time acupuncturist in my area.
I have not personally tried it, but plan to. I believe as the previous poster stated, some acupuncturists are better than others.
I believe you will hear from some other posters that they have had some success with acupuncture. It is certainly worth a try.
Good luck and keep us posted.
hi Cassi,
i'm a new member so i'm reading through older posts and wanted to chime in. i've been going to acupuncture for a few years now for a variety of things......allergies/asthma, joint pain, fatigue, migraines...lots of things that are turning out to be sjogrens related. Its done wonders for me when I go consistently. unfortunately my insurance doesnt cover it so its a bit $$$ for me but now that i only go every few weeks its not so bad. well worth the relief if you can find a good one.
Hi Cassi
I have a great a acupuncturist that was recommended by my PCP. I agree with the other posters that there are good and bad ones so I would try and get a good referral from someone you trust.
I have been treated for a bulging discs at L4 and S1 that gave me do much pain, but I did not want to have a steroid injection. So I opted to try the acupuncture first and was a bit of a non believer. After about six visits it was like the pain was fading away. I still go back from time to time when the pain comes back but I am a believer now
Thanks everyone. My insurance will cover it for back issues. I have to ask if they will cover it for pain management.
I am frustrated in that there are no approved acupuncturists within 10 miles of here without going into NYC. To do that I would need to take a bus and train and be able to walk long NYC blocks. I am going to keep looking.
I went to a chiropractor that did a massage and insurance covered it. He also did acupuncture but only on my tmj joints as this is one of my main issues. It has helped but only short term.
I have had it done for pain management. I have found that it did not help and that the medications and heat/ice works much better.
