Title: Snowy midwestern states
Post by: Bucky on May 02, 2013, 08:32:58 PM
Let me see . . . . my calendar says its MAY 2nd and I can't believe some of you living in the midwest are STILL getting snow!!!   :o   ???   :(   (I live in the midwest too, but we don't have snow . . . NOT complaining!!)

So . . . Joe, Irish and others . . . how much snow DO you have?

Maybe, you'll get to experience spring soon . . . hopefully . . . . or, you may go from winter right into summer!

Hang in there guys  - you'll be mowing grass soon.   ;)

Well, it was a beautiful snow I will say that. It was also a very moisture loaded snow and we really needed that. Our son planted potatoes and onions in the garden on sunday so they will be off to a good start. We had about 8-9 inches and it melted some during the day. I was very nice out.  My sister lives about 20 miles East of me and she had 13 1/2 inches in her driveway. The nurse at the clinic today is from the same area and she had 15 1/2inches.

On the Mississippi River around Stillwater or so it snowed 17 inches. My front entry/4 season porch will not get cleaned until I feel better and the weather quits giving us so much mud. Needless to say the farmers are getting antsy.. They forget that all the early planting they did the past couple of years is very unusual. In MN it is not unusual to be planting soybeans the first couple of weeks of June. MOther Nature keeps changing the rules on us. Irish

From the news reports I've heard, you would think that the state of MN was buried in snow!   ???

At least one good thing - this late in the season, it should melt fast.

The problem is, if it melts too fast you get flooding. We got .6 inches here in Pueblo, CO, but they got a LOT more up north. And we are so grateful for the moisture!

No snow here in eastern Iowa but they got 11 inches in Brit and some of the extreme northern and northeastern towns got it.  I have a bunch of cousins around Stillwater, MN and across the St Croix into Somerset & Hudson, WI. I can never complain about the weather to them because they always have it worse.

But honestly, I would rather have the snow. Here it has been all rain. Due to this wet, warm and cool weather makes it very easy for me to catch stuff. I've been fighting a virus for over a week now with the sore throat, full ears, fatigue, occassional headaches & temp at times. I just have to feel miserable until my body fights it off which you know takes awhile w/us Soggies.

I just seems when there is snow or when it is warm outside, I don't get the bugs usually. Course I had a time about 5 years ago, when I had walking pneumonia in July! Sigh.
