Hi,
a few months ago I got sick and took azithromycin.. After about 8 days, my sjogrens symptoms got a lot better!
Is azithromycin used to treat sjogrens? Is anyone taking it for sjogrens?
Thanks!
Maybe you have an infection you didn't know about... mycoplasma, Lyme, RMSF, all kinds of things it could be hitting.
Azithromycin (Z-pack) is what I usually get for my sinus infections. always clears them up, but not my sjogren's.
I agree with Jazzlover, maybe you have an underlying infections causing your symptoms and that is what cleared up. Also, by nature, antibiotics are anti-inflammatory so maybe it helped decrease the inflammation so you feel better.

I cannot take Z-pak (Zmax). I have it on all my records that I'm allergic to it. Plus E-mycin. Emycin tears my gutts up and also most of the antibiotics do too. I took Z-pak since I've had sjogens and took a-pak for 10 days or so and don't remember what it was for. Well a couple of weeks after that, I came down with thrush really bad and a bunch of stuff I never want again. Lucy
The are a few antibiotics that also have anti-inflammatory qualities. They make the inflammation better along with the infection. Azithromycin is one that is used often. Doxycycline also helps the inflammatory issues. I get a lot of relief from the doxycycline and very little from the azithromycin. Biaxin also helps some and is in the same family of drugs as the azithromycin.
The good thing is that these meds make us feel better for a time. The bad thing is that people want to stay on the drug all the time and this is not safe. The bacteria build up a resistance to these antibiotics and this can be dangerous if we get an infection and then the antibiotics won't work. Better to bask in the moment and then wait tip the next time we need antibiotics to enjoy a little reprieve. Good luck. Irish
Yes I notice my eyes were less dry and red. I was also able to exercise more.
So what drugs are used for inflammation in sjogrens syndrome?
Some use plaquenil to help symptoms.
