Title: Need answer
Post by: Cricket on January 30, 2013, 01:59:58 PM
I had a chemo treatment last week Tuesday and am wondering if it is ok to babysit granddaughter who has been sick with diarrhea for five days but has not gone today.

This is really a question to ask your doctor. Chemo often suppresses WBC and lowers your resistance and ability to fight off viruses and infections.

Thanks rnathans, I did call dr office and they said no.  It is because it takes 7-10 days after a chemo for immune system to be lowest, they said by 2-4 I should be in pretty good shape.  Thanks for the quick reply so I had time to call before they left, I don't know why I did not think of that I guess just hate to bother them.

Cricket,
I'm glad you checked with your doctor.  We want to keep you well!  In my opinion, when one is on chemo, it's best to avoid all the germs you can.  Better safe than sorry!
Hugs

Glad you called the doctor. It was a very legitimate question to ask. None of us wants to be a bother but sometimes a call is necessary.

I would say definitely NO. Chemo treatment lowers your immune system.  My oncologist had me stay away from crowds, sick people and any kids.
