I have heard of the silicone plugs on here before, but I never had anyone say they were amazing. Let me be the first then. I LOVE THEM!!!!
I started having symptoms of sjorgrens around the time I hit puberty. I thought the dry eyes were from my new contacts & the other symptoms were just from becoming a teenager. I spent so long with dry eyes I didn't even give it a second thought.
That is until this year... my eyes were so dry I could barely see the road even though I didn't need glasses. I had tried Restasis when I was diagnosed, but it didn't really help. Plus it was too expensive for the small annoyance of dry eyes.
My optometrist saw me this week and suggested silicone plugs. It was exactly why I had made the appointment. He put them in on Monday & it's been an amazing difference. My eyes are still dry. I am sure to someone else they would be itchy & dry. But I can see again!!! I love them even though I can still feel them. I am hoping my brain will just start ignoring that sensation like it does my sore feet and knees and the dry eyes. It's 7pm here & my eyes are as clear as 7am. (Usually by this time of day I feel half blind.)
Just wanted to share some good news & a suggestion for those who haven't tried them.
Johnson,
I'm so glad the plugs made a big difference for your eyes! They helped mine immediately, too. (I have since had mine permanently cauterized.)
Happy for you! ;D

It's always good to hear that someone has found relief for something :)
You said you can still "feel" the plugs - I've been wondering that. How does it feel like? I've also wondered that what if I rub my eyes after getting them - do they come off easily?
I still get along somehow with drops but maybe in the near future I'll go for the plugs, too. But somehow the idea of them creeps me out a bit.
To me it feels almost like mild sinus pressure would just in a different spot on your face.
So far nothing is dislodged, but the dr. said they have a larger size if that became an issue. I hope not b/c then I would probably just notice the pressure even more.
So rarely with my symptoms has anything been an immediate help. :) So nice and simple.
Hi Johnson,
Let me first welcome you here, since I've not done that, so Welcome!! ;)
Thanks so much for sharing your great news about the eye plugs. It's wonderful that you have relief immediately-I know how surprising that can be for us!
I'm so glad for you. We always are happy to hear good news about what treatment has helped.
Take care, and I look forward to hearing more from you.

Thanks Melinda:) I have been a member for awhile, but I am not always super active.
Side note, for me it took about a week & now I really don't notice the plugs at all unless I really think about it.
You should stop feeling them soon.
I've had mine in a couple of years with no problems.

Good for you and Great for your eyes, Johnson! I had temps. put in so maybe I will get the permanent ones after reading about your success...which I hope continues :)
Great News to hear, and I second that. hehe. I got the permanent plugs put in today, and love them. I first had the temporary ones for a couple of weeks to see if they helped.
My eyes were so dry when I went back in, and now they feel much better. I ask him how long they last. He said forever unless I have a problem.
susanep :)
