Title: wellbutrin 300mg xl... dry side effects or just sjogrens??
Post by: valene2009 on January 21, 2013, 01:30:46 PM
my eyes =both of them today are killing me.. they have been burning the past few weeks (i am pms also) and i just dont know if its from the increase in wellbutrin or just sjogrens/????  i dont know what to do.. every doc and pharmacist i talk to says something different..  like its not drying but then the one pharmacist said it causes dry mouth 17% of the time compared to 10 % in ssri's..

any thoughts?  has anyone gotten drier on wellbutrin ?? and can it make pms worse like swollen breasts for 2 weeks??  I know Irish commented on that...

please help!

I tried Wellbutrin a very long time ago, a really low dose.  It was extremely drying and caused awful insomnia.  I couldn't stick with it more than a few days.

Any antidepressant can cause dryness I suppose. Famous for that - wouldn't rule it out

Are there any anti anxiety/depression meds that dont cause dryness? I am probably in need of asking for treatment for sjs related mental issues. My first sign something was wrong was back in the spring 2012 before any dryness, I had severe personality changes panic and anxiety I have never seen before, and crazy thoughts. Anyone that knew me said to me..you are like some crazy person whats wrong with you? And I could see it happening to myself and didnt know why all I knew was that I was losing my mind somehow. That along with crushing fatigue that made what normally is a fun filled summer into a nightmare of mental illness and being home bound.

Those symptoms eased up tremendously in september , I still have minor bouts but nothing like the 24/7 bizzaro world I had been experiencing. I just would like to know what options there are in case this horrible little disease decides to wreak havoc on my mental state again.

I do have to mention that often we are our own worst enemy. We have sjogrens symptoms and take these meds that are supposed to help us. We all get ono the internet and look up every single med and know all the side effects and then we sit and worry about it. Darned if we don't develop some of the side effects.

Looking up all these side effects is the worst thing we can do. Worrying about getting a side effect is the second worst thing we can do. When we start a new med we should just go on with life to the best of our ability. If it is going to cause some really miserable issues we usually will know in a week. If it causes some smaller issues then sometimes waiting a bit to call the doc (if it isn't something that makes you scared--remember that scared means, can't breath, can't see, can't think straight, bad heart palpitations, bad itching-you get the idea) is the best thing to do.

A lot of the side effects will resolve themselves over the next days to weeks. There is no perfect med and with antidepressants we don't always know how well they will work for 4-6 weeks. I used to obscess over all my meds, and as a RN I had access to the really good drug books. I was usually a basket case over the meds.

Remember that antidepressant meds will change the chemicals in our brains so we will have headaches and probably the shart shooting pains in our head as the chemical levels normalize. Sometimes the fatigue will be bad and sometimes we will get hyper. Nausea and constipation will affect some people and others will have diarrhea. We all have to just take a deep breath and hang with the program a little longer. If these symptoms become troublesome we should call the doc and talk to them. They know more about these side effects and about the ones that will go away with time.

Being depressed is painful and getting un-depressed can be painful also. There is no easy cure for anything in this life. Also, remember that dryness can come and it can go. Sjogrens increases the chance of depression and dryness can be caused by imbalance of other chemicals in the body besides the brain or a new med. Do not panic. Nausea will go away and constipation goes with most of the antidepressants and can be treated with a diet of fruits, vegies, cooked prunes (better than prune juice I think) and the occasional stool softener and lzxative that a doc will recommend. Don't forget eating just the dried prunes, dates, apricots, etc and drinking plenty of fluids. Good luck. IRish

Yes, even motrin...everything causes dryness...alot of doctors dont seem to understand the severity of our dryness and keep wanting to throw more meds at us. I dont take alot of them just because of the dryness.

Allergies/colds and cold weather making me soooooooooooo dry too.

I have taken Wellbutrin for several years,  and have not noticed any additional drying effects. I guess it's highly individual.
