Title: Have to take Isoniazid in order to take biologics in 9 months!
Post by: artsyamerican on January 08, 2013, 04:17:07 PM
Well I am the queen of drug reactions and everything I've taken....Plaquenil, Methotrexate, Suflasalazine has either caused bad reactions or havent worked.  My latest CRP showed 22 (<3 normal)...so as a last resort I've consented to take Isoniazid because I have had a positive TB test in the past (I don't have TB) and all the biologics require this for people who have tested positive.  I'm scared to put yet another drug in my body...but I feel like I have to! Has anyone taken this drug??? :-\

Hi, I had mycobacterium kansasii which is a form of TB that is non-contagious but can still do damage. I had it in my lungs, liver and spleen as shown on CT.

I was oon Isoniazid, Ethambutol for one year. I was on Rifampin for about 2 months along with the other 2 meds, but I developed an allergy to that med. The rifampin was replaced with Biaxin for one year. I did fine on these drugs.

I have always worried over the years about taking medications and would read the literature and fret. When I got diagnosed with all this stuff I learned that I had better change my tune. When I started these meds for my form of TB I sat down at the kitchen table and told God that I was handing all this over to Him and he was now in charge of my liver and I would worry no more. I didn't worry and I got through without any big events.

When we get all these diseases we are at their mercy and have to just bite the bullet and do what must be done. To not follow most of the protocol could be dangerous for us. Granted, we must do our homework and keep abreast of all that is going on with our body, but the time does come when we lose more control over our destiny than we want to. How we deal with this is up to us. Not easy, but lessons in life are never easy. Gopod luck. Irish

After a positive TB test (non active tb though), I had to take it for one year. I don't think I really had any major reactions to it but I think it did make me feel kind of nauseated at first. If I remember right, they had to monitor my liver functions too while on it. I remember I could not drink any alcohol with it. Or at least that's what I was told at the time.
I've had far worse reactions to other meds so this one for me was just more of a nuisance to remember to take. But everyone reacts differently.
I had no complications from it though.

I hope it all works out for you!
