The above article, which is hilarious, reminds me that I am very alcohol-sensitive. I've always blamed in on my brain injury at birth, but this has me wondering.
Is anyone else here really alcohol-sensitive?

I used to enjoy a glass of wine from time to time, but now it's just not enjoyable. It goes right to my joints and makes them burn. I don't get that feeling of relaxation that I used to - it just makes my mind fuzzier in an unpleasant way. And it doesn't go away for a day or two. I miss it sometimes, but figure it's a small sacrifice all things considered.
I just don't partake with all the meds I'm on. That way, no one will ever say I added to my "problems" because I had a beer or wine. I am so nauseated with all the meds, have no interest.
Alcohol will forever be a memory, can't drink at all now. The effect is something like...death to the GI tract. And over all gross.
I LOVE wine with a meal, but can't do it now that I'm on Mtx. I miss it, but feel much better without it!
I do enjoy a glass of wine or two, or a bottle of beer here and there. But I know that often my mouth will become a piece of sandpaper with the first taste. It doesn't happen all of the time so I know I'm taking a chance when I get any form of alcohol. I really haven't "researched" myself to figure out if there are certain triggers that causes the effects to happen sometimes and not at other times. Maybe I should be more aware. I don't mind being the designated driver and limit my intake at all. I also know that I'm more likely to suffer a hangover because of the dehydration I feel all of the time.
Be sure you read about your meds. Most say do not drink alcohol while taking them. Please be careful.

I've gone off ally meds and I do like to drink. Unfortunately it makes me much drier the next day. By the by I only drink high end silver tequila as it is gluten and GMO corn free. Less histsmines too.
It's a shame but I can't imbibe like I used to. Shouldn't at all really. But it's fun once in a while :)
I still drink red wine, occasionally. Just one glass.
A couple of times I've tried gluten free beer. One brand (Dauro) I like.
In summer, I like vinho verde, the crisp, bubbly green wine from Portugal. Very light and I drink more than one glass.
It's all dehydrating, so each month I drink less and less.
I quit drinking way before my diagnosis. There fore it was way before medications. It started making me very sick. Even just one glass would make me sick. I think it is because im already dehydrated and alcohol is dehydrating. So no drinkning for me.

When I want a drink, I have Tito's vodka. It was recommended by my doctor as an option for when I want to have the odd drink. It is very, very clean! Gluten free, too.
I still have an alcoholic drink now and then. The stars have to align:
1. I'm not driving.
2. Somebody else pays.
3. I can get the drink made with half the alcohol. You would be amazed at how many places use mixes that they can't alter.
4. It is a fruit daiquiri or margarita.
They align once every three or four years... On good decades.

I'm a total light-weight when it comes to alcohol. Then if I do imbibe, it takes me days to get over it.
Look to Lyme disease and/or candida/yeast as the cause of alcohol intolerance.
Jazzlover, you dont think it is from being dehydrated already??

I have never been drunk or tipsy or consumed more than a unit of alcohol in the one sitting. My GI problems initially stopped me drinking, then the liver disease.
Even if I didn't have sjogren's, gut problems or liver disease, I just don't like the taste. I've never 'learned' to like drinking.
I feel very fortunate that this is the case when I see how it drains money, time and health from friends and family.
Unfortunately this makes people think I'm really weird because I don't drink alcohol and limits social life. I'm okay with that.
I can't drink much at all. If I do take a sip, I feel so bad. I feel weak, so tired I can't sit up, and I just have to lay down. It's not worth it to me, so I will order virgin margaritas or pina coladas.
I guess I really don't miss it at all. The side effects outweigh any pleasure it would give me. Probably only drink about a teaspoon once or twice a year.
methotrexate = NO ALCOHOL for me :(
I used to love drinking a glass or two of red wine, or perhaps a gin and tonic. I don't touch alcohol now because if I do I feel awful. :(
I have finally succumb to the fact I can't really drink anymore.
I love a cold beer here and there, but since I can't have gluten, that's gone.
GF beers are not the same.
One glass of wine sucks out the last bit of moisture I have in my body. I can't even talk my mouth gets so dry. Even drinking water with it. I will drink a gallon trying to quench the dryness. It is really miserable.
Not to mention the aching.

I don't know if this mean anything but I've never been able to drink. My face turns bright red. Hands and feet itch. I've been like this ever since I tried to drink in college.

Not really. Dehydration doesn't help though.
My arms and legs hurt when I drink and it does not take much for me to get buzzed. Then I feel really bad.
