Title: Compounded Plaquenil vs. regular pills (great results)
Post by: gardenlover on January 05, 2013, 10:43:03 AM
Hey Folks,
I know a lot of people on here wanted to try Plaquenil and couldn't tolerate it.  I was one of them!  However, one of my doctors said to try compounded it.  I have and started at 50 mg.  Every month or so I increase by 25mg and so far so good.  I'm at 125 mg now.  I thought I'd never be able to take it, but it is working this way.  Just something to consider...

Hi Gardenlover  :)

I'm glad that is working for you.

I've always advised people to wean onto Plaquenil slowly because that's what my rheumy told me to do. I had to use a pill cutter initially only taking a dose every second day. It took me about 2 months to get onto the advised dosage.

Compounded Plaquenil is obviously a further choice.

Take care - Scottie  :)

The weaning onto it is one of two reasons why you probably are doing better this time.  The other is the fact that EVERY drug (brand & generic) have inert ingredients.  You may have been intolerant to these other ingredients in the brand or generic you tried before...and the compounded one has something you can take without upset.

Regardless of the reason, at least you able to take it now.  Good luck with your gradual increase.
