As we all know, glasses are pretty much a given if you have sjs and don't have 20/20 vision! So I'm wondering, have any of you ever bought glasses online? I only have one pair of glasses at the moment, and they fit poorly and have from the very beginning - despite the fact that they cost $300 from my eye doc. Ugh.
So now I am looking to buy a few more pair of back up glasses - and I REFUSE to buy them from my eye doc again and spend $300. I found a few websites online where I can get a pair for under $100, but I've never bought glasses online before -- only contacts.
Does anyone have recommendations or good experiences you can share for this? This seems like a tough thing to buy online since you can't try them on, but again --- I am NOT paying $300 for another pair of glasses.
If you don't have astigmatism, you may be able to get by with drugstore readers. Our local Rite Aids have a good selection for about $20. I use a low strength for the computer (mid distance) and a high strength for (closeup) reading.
If you buy them online, read the reviews from customers and make sure you can send them back for a refund if they don't fill your needs. Costco and WalMart both make glasses as well and they're much cheaper than from most doctors' offices.
Another thought; Lions Club used to accept donations of used prescription glasses. I wonder if they identify the lens and then give them away.

I found a Groupon deal online. So my glasses cost under $100. I got the vision prescription when I had my eyes checked from the Opthamologist .
I went to the vendor before buyer the coupon .. chose one local...as not all frame quality is the same and the ones on sale when I looked where all the trendy small reading glasses look. I do not like those for driving. I actually pickout a pair that are "retro" looking from the mens side...lol. Tortise on top w/ metal on the bottom.
The second place I went to had much better quality, and they did the lenses on site (I called to check) so I was done with one stop shopping. Plus if they need adjustments I can just stop back.
For the past several years to buy glasses at the eye doctor was to pay a lot more as others have said, but today me and my husband had to go for our eye exams, and we both needed glasses.
They told us they have a deal package if we need that. Well, it was great. I wear bifocals so my lens and frames came to 89.00 and paid an extra 10.00 for year extended warranty.
My husband who was getting progressive glasses, and is came to 119.00 for frames and lens.
I was so happy.

I purchased eyewear online and purchased a pair that was too small for my face. Go to a retailer and pick a couple pairs that fit you well, write down the measurements and use those to get a good fitting pair. I wore too small frames for a whole year!!!
I've bought them online before, they were good glasses and a whole lot cheaper.. Coastal usually has a promo code so your first pair is free if you wear single vision glasses.. Coastal or Zenni Optical have all the measurements listed so you can make sure to get the size you want..
You will need your PD or Pupillary Distance from your eye doctor if it is not listed on your prescription.. It's kind of hard to measure it yourself but one of them does have a pd ruler you can print if you want to measure it..
Check Sam's and Costco, too. Pearle Vision and some other chains have two-for-one specials as well. Both pair don't have to be yours.

I bought my "good" pair of progressive/transition lens glasses at Costco last year, $270. I wanted just reading glasses, nothing fancy and bought them online at Zenni Optical (have astigmatism so can't do ready-made readers.)
Uploaded a pic of my face, virtually tried on the frames I was interested in; found what I wanted, paid $25 including shipping, called them to ensure I actually bought frames & lenses & shipping for $25....customer service was excellent...was delivered in a week and I couldn't have made a better purchase. I want another pair of distance only glasses to throw in my car for driving and I will order from them again. The only drawback is that frame styles are a little limited.

The last time I did a two for one. I had the extra pair dark tinted for sunglasses...that was eons ago and I still have the sunglasses...and get compliments on them... they came back in style...lol :o
Oh with the Groupon the cost of my glasses included glare-free or whatever lenses for driving. Otherwise they would have be as Sharon said 89.99 frame+ lenses. Sunday fliers always have specials
Thank you all for the great suggestions!!! I ended up going with a deal online where they're giving 30% off frames and lenses for New Years. So I ordered two pair for about $150. That's half the price I paid for ONE pair two years ago.
Now the real test will be if I like them when they get here!!! :)
If not then I guess I will be checking into that return policy!!! And maybe then trying out some of the other suggestions here.
