This was recommended by a friend - she does not have sjogrens, but does have other serious autoimmune issues. She says this 'diet' has greatly improved her life and has restored her energy. I just bought a Vita Mix blender at Costco - kinda' expensive ($359.00). Any heavy duty blender should work. I just started this yesterday - wish me luck :). I plan to post an update in about 2 weeks.
THIS MAKES A LOT, so you will have it 'on hand'. Just cut it way down if you are planning to try one serving.
2 bananas
2 oranges
1 cup baby carrots
1 cup broccoli I get the broccoli in a bag at Trader Joe's
1 cup spinach and the spinach in a bag at '' ''
1 cup blue berries
1 apple
1 grape fruit
Add 2 cups of water, and 2 cups of ice cubes.
Put all this in the blender, run the blender for about 60 or 65
seconds. Will make about 1/2 gal. or more. I do 4 blender fulls. And
pour them into 1/2 gal milk cartons. Leave one out and put the rest in
the freezer.
But you can pretty much use any fruit and veg. you like.
I buy orange juice (frozen) at Costco, mix it up in
a pitcher, pour a glass in the mornings, and 2 tablespoons of olive oil,
(which I get at Costco), add a teaspoon of Konsyl fiber mix (which I
get at (Wall Mart). $13.97, ( last about a month), then add Flax seed
meal, from Trader Joe's.
I also buy from Costco, Kirkland fiber pills, 2 bottles for 16.99. I
take 3 pills in the morning and 3 after lunch and 3 after dinner. This
really cleans me out all this fiber. Which is what you want to do.
Keep that Colon clean. All of this makes a good cleanse for your Colon.
So the first thing I do, is drink 2 glasses of water, 8 ozs. each.
Then drink, your fiber orange drink, and take your pills. Which again I
get at Costco. Calcium, Vit. E, Vit. B malty, 1000 mil. Vit. C. Take
this with another glass of water.
Then 15 to 30 minutes later, have your fruit drink. Then more pills,
Iron, 1, 80 mil. gram sprain, 1 Iron pill, with another glass of
water. By this time you have had 2 drinks, and 4 glasses of water.
Then eat breakfast when ever you like. After breakfast, take 3 more
fiber pills, one Calcium, and one Vit. C. with another glass of water.
After lunch, do the same thing, pills and water. Now you have had 6
glasses of water.
Then after dinner do it again, pills and water. Now you have had 7
glasses of water.
If you would like have another fruit drink and another glass of water
mid afternoon and you have had your 8 glasses of water by the time
dinner is over. Ya!!!
So I hope this will help you, and make you feel good. It sure does me.
Question!! Do you every get out of the bathroom. Between the fluids and the fiber sounds like you are one busy girl.
I don't know if I could stand all the acid in the fruits. I would never have the "moxie" to keep this up. Also, I live in MN and the cost would be very prohibitive---we havae high priced fresh fruits and vegies. Glad it works for you. IRish
I'm intrigued, and could see myself doing this if it does indeed, help! Thanks for sharing and will look forward to your update in a few weeks. Also, LOL @ Irish's question!
It looks like you have a balanced mix. How long are you keeping it in the fridge? I use a 8 oz glass of carrot juice each morning. I get my juice from Costco. There are several good books on Juicing.
Bananas are very rich. Banana and Apple juice is often listed as ambrosia. If you are diabetic you can drive your sugars through the roof in short order.
My go-to smoothie is simply kale, spinach, frozen cherries and pineapple (Costco). If the pineapple is too much sugar, then I just use cherries and/or blueberries. I make enough for two large iced-tea glasses. One goes into the frig for my husband who likes his really cold and mine goes into the microwave to take off the chill (Jack Spratt can eat no fat, his wife can eat no lean...!). I can tell by the color if I've added enough greens.
Fiber supplements have a negative effect on me and aren't needed with lots of raw kale and other vegetables. Since stopping grains and sugars, my blood sugars are much more stable.
Sometimes I also juice: apples, lemon, ginger root, carrots, cucumber, assorted dark greens. The pulp makes a good, delicate soup stock. Because of the apples and ginger, it even tastes okay to drink instead of water. I like it warm, of course.
Ha! I am re-reading my post. You're right, Irish; It does seem extreme, but my fatigued ears just 'perked up' when my friend said that her 'regime' (she has been doing this for 6 months) has greatly improved her health. She mixes the lg. batches for her and her husband. Regarding frequent bathroom trips- this is only my third day - so far so good :) and I haven't tried her compete routine of fiber, water, etc. - not too sure about that. I've made 2 smoothies per day, but no grapefruit or brocolli.
Giftedpooch: according to my friend, it stays in the fridge for about 5 dys (but she also freezes batches).
Sookie - I like your go-to smoothie recipe.
Joe - I love carrot juice; thanks for the Costco tip. I was buying it from Von's, which is expensive and occasionally tastes rancid (I was too tired to return it, so just threw it in the trash).
I hope ya'll are having a good day. I will update about this topic in approx. 2 weeks. "Keep on keepin' on..."
I hope this helps you.
susanep :)
Here is my update about the vita mixer blender drinks and fiber routine recommended my my friend. I have been drinking 1 to 2 of the green smoothies per day (late morning & afternoon) for about 3 wks. Usually a banana, blueberries, spinach, apple & carrots - sometimes an orange. I have added broccoli when it is available. this is in addition to meals (gluten- free). It has helped give me a sense of well being. Some days my energy seems better, but I still have too many days of blah blah & more blah. My digestive issues have greatly improved! I didn't try her fiber routine - seemed like too much work am I lazy or what!?
