Title: Thumb turned purple..any ideas?
Post by: quilt4fun on October 03, 2012, 02:37:57 PM
  Strange thing----
Last Friday afternoon, my thumb started hurting and turned purple.  I didn't hit it on anything; but I was playing with a soft frizbee with my grandson.  It tingled all night and by Sat. morning, about half of my thumb was purple and very sore and tingly.  Sun. am it was less purple and by Mon, am it was back to normal.
Has anybody had a similar experience?

Go see your doctor. It could be a blood clot.

Joe is right as there are some blood disorders caused by autoimmune disease that can cause the blood to clot more easily. This can be treated but needs to be done ASAP to avoid any more serious issues. Irish

My problem was that it occurred over the weekend and by Mon it was gone--- hard to show a doctor a normal thumb and try to describe what it felt and looked like; but i will mention it when a see a doctor again.  And hasn't come back or given me any trouble since then.

That is the way it goes with our stuff. GEt bad on the weekend and always heal ourselves by Monday. Just like a kid. If you can get a picture taken of any physical issue so that at least you have "hard copy" of it to show the doc. I just got a new camera and hope to follow my own advice.

Now if I could get smart enough to figure out all the perks on this camera. I am living in the wrong time. I need an old box Kodak camera. Rembmer those??? Irish

They always engineer all these features into things that almost nobody every learns to use. Sometimes it is worth just sitting there for a couple of hours with the instruction book, and just push buttons. At least with  modern electronic gadgets, you can't break anything with just pushing buttons. Just make sure that you can't accidentally erase something you need.

I have had something on my fingers from time to time similar to what you describe.  What I experience is my veins explode and it feels like a painful bruise.  It turns purple.  You can see the big purple vein.  But it happens only on my hands.  I wonder if this could be the same thing?

Whatever it is, I hope it doesn't happen again to you.

I too, get this. Right now both pinkies are purple & bruised looking from the inside, middle joint down to where my fingers connect to my hand.
Totally strange...obviously I didn't bruise the insides of both fingers at the same time, location & duration. :o
