Title: evoxac side effects
Post by: rwharo on September 17, 2012, 06:06:20 AM
I've tried a few doses of evoxac and while it did increase my saliva production, it made me feel really strange and almost dizzy.  I had to lie down on the couch.  It was nice to have saliva, but I guess it doesn't do me much good if I can't get off the couch! Also, it seemed to make my heart beat faster.  My heart rate was 100 and I was just sitting there doing nothing!

I was just wondering if anybody else had difficulty with the Evoxac side effects.  I'm also wondering if I should try Salagen or if it would have the same side effects.  Any thoughts?

Hello, I am new to this also. I just started taking evoxac too, I have some hotness and a little sweating but nothing I cant handle so far. I hate taking meds of any kind but I can honestly say not taking this drug would be much worse for me. My mouth has completely dried out, fast since the dr. told me its sicca but she thinks sjogrens a few weeks ago.

They say there are some side effects but you will adjust to them in a little while, I guess call your dr' and inform them of it. They may swap you to salagen

Oh I forgot to add, last night I had the weirdest head ache pain it was kinda sharp and felt in a few dif places. Didnt last long though, prob a side effect I took my pill about a half hour before.

I had the same thing happen when I first started taking Evoxac.  I called my doctor to tell her.  She told me to just try to put up with it for a couple of weeks until my body got used to the medicine.  So I did and sure enough my body adjusted to it.  But I still can only take two a day.  Three makes me sweat too much.

Thats what I am doing Liz trying to put up with what I guess are sides effects. I am also taking 2 day atm, 3 sends me into a tizzy. I try to space them so I only have a few hours of dryness, because I absolutely have to have them overnight. Thats the worst for me although I have only been on it for week the first few days were great lots of saliva. But I noticed yesterday I wasnt producing much with the pills anymore. Does this happen to you, and is it like back and forth or should I be worried my glands are about completely gone?

Liz, when you first started taking it, did you only take 1 pill per day then work up to 2/day?  Maybe I'll try again in a few weeks and see if I can tolerate the side effects.

I had those side-effects when I took Salagen!

When I talked to our very own Cheryl, though, she said I should try Evoxac because it's a completely different formula.

So I did, and am I ever glad! I guess each person is different.

If the Evoxac doesn't work for you, try Salagen.

I think someone posted they split the capsules up half in like applesauce or oatmeal and the second half in the capsule at the next dose. I guess it all depends how bad you need it too. From what I read it dont build up in the body, I am hoping I can get away with 2x a day. Of course splitting up the dose is messy and prob not very accurate lol

Def talk to your doctor, if its causing heart or BP problems, so they can check you over make sure of whats going on.

I started right out following the directions of taking three a day.  I did not work up to it.  I found out early on I can only take two a day because of the profuse sweating with the third pill.  I have been on this medication now for close to 8 years and I do notice that I am getting drier and drier.  It is either the progression of Sjogrens or maybe my body is just so used to the Evoxac.  I might try three pills again and see what happens.

I tried Salagen but it gave me migraine headaches so I could not take it.

Evoxac has been much better for me than Salagen which made me sweaty and feel weird. I have had to play around with my dosage quite a bit. Right now I take just one every other morning. Much more than that and my salivary ducts swell and get painful with gross tasting saliva. My Rhuemy also said it takes awhile to adjust to this medication.

to Wisconsin 41,

I tried to go up again to three pills a day, but I still can't because I get a cold, clammy sweat.  So I take one Evoxac with breakfast and one with dinner and can manage that.  I still have extraordinary mouth dryness, but I assume it would be a lot worse if I didn't take the two Evoxac.  I don't want to stop and find out because then I'll have to go through the side effects for the first two weeks again and I don't want to do that.

I did buy the new Xylimelts at Rite Aid drug store.  They are little discs that adhere to your gumline and slowly dissolve giving me at least a little moisture.  They are new.  I just ordered them online too.  Google it and you can find some info on them.

Mostly just the sweating.  Once I went to two a day, that stopped.

I took pilocarpine and had severe side effects but as you experience, I got a burst of saliva.

However, a few days into taking pilocarpine I was shopping downtown and had vertigo and vomiting

so bad.....I sat on the asphalt next to my car and used my cell phone to call my husband to

come pick me up...I was unable to drive home.

I've too worried to try any other similar meds b/c the experience was that awful to me.

but I see others do well.......life is like a box of chocolates/

Eye2, I had a similar reaction to pilocarpine. About ten minutes after taking a dose I would be so nauseated that I couldn't move my head. It went away after about 30 minutes, and if I took my next dose on time I wouldn't get that reaction. But I don't have a very good memory, so...

I now take Evoxac (generic form) and have never had any side effects. Plus it works like a charm!
