Title: Hepititus C virus ?
Post by: season on September 02, 2012, 11:15:00 PM
With all the latest news reports about urging all the "baby boomers" to get tested for the C virus, I was wondering if anyone has done this if I may ask a personal question.

My brother who is 53 had surgery when he was a child and was infected thru a blood transfusion. He is undergoing treatment and I feel so sorry for him as the medicines are really taking a toll on him. He has sick stomach, fevers, tremors, lost a lot of weight and a good bit of his hair --all from taking the meds to cure the virus.

Season,
I am sorry your brother is having such a rough go of it.  Hep C is a nasty one all by its self, then add the meds :(

I was a phlebo for several years and we were all more concerned with getting a needle stick with Hep than HIV.  I have been tested, they were looking at everything when I had an exceptionally rough flare a couple of years ago.  Thank God i was negative!

Will keep you in my prayers!

Hep C has had a lot of publicity the past years. Naomi Judd had it and was thought to be on her last leg. She quit singing in order to do the treatment and rest. Thankfully, she lived though the treatment.

As a nurse I had some needle sticks over the years. I, too, was concerned about HIV but my doc always told me to be more concerned about the Hepatitis viruses that are out there.

Yes, the treatment can be hard to tolerate, but hopefully your brother will recover in due time. The liver is a very interesting organ. It can take a lot of abuse and recover.

I am always concerned about Hep C and other hepatitis virus when in big crowds and restrooms. I just can picture the viruses hanging around on all those doorknobs. Of course, I am a little obsessive about germs with my low t-cells. Wash our hands- alot- is the best thing to do. Irish

After the doctors poisoned me with Tylenol I was told that I have Hep C. A few years later I had a recheck and was told no Hep C. Another recheck said no Hep C.

I have been tested a few times because of blood exposure at work and rejoice with each negative.
My sister is positive and has not had any treatment.
