Should I be afraid of marijuana any more than this medicine that can cause me to have liver damage/failure.
Well, if you know what you are looking for, you can find it all over Minnesota. It is a weed that the government planted in along our rivers and roadway during WWII for rope. I think we should legalize it and tax it like alcohol. The thing is I am not fond of either. Both can help manage pain and both have negative side effects like most other drugs.
I would prefer not to read about illegal substances on here. For those who have family/friends affected by substance abuse and lives lost or ruined, it is not 'harmless' and is often the initial step down a road to heck.

Harrigan...Let me apologize to you. I am sorry if this was offensive to you. I was just throwing something out to be silly..I sincerely did not mean it to be offensive to you or anyone else. It just seems that we are often so serious because of our pain and SJ that I thought it funny that this would be considered an option to others. Please know I am very sorry.
Many of us are considered addicts when others look at what we take for pain. We know our pain is real, our partners hopefully get it. But even some of my close family members think I take too much medication and if I would just get off of it I would not be tired, or hurt or....You know.
I worked in an ER for many years and the docs came and went and all of them and I do mean ALL of them treated people like us as if we were "DRUG SEEKERS" and refused to even consider the fact that what was happening was real!! I watched one Doc yell at a person during a busy night as the patient was being walked in a wheel chair to a room, that if it was drugs they wanted, they may as well not be seen, cause he was not giving anything. She broke down in tears on the spot. after several more visits they finally saw a NP in the minor care area, who ordered a chest films and then scans and low and behold this girl was hurting because she had a mass in her chest, long and short of it...she was Sjs and had Lymphoma full blown because of the fact that for months she was blown off by her docs and the er docs. Yes, her pain was very real..I got it and I understood when no one else did.
Joe S. The state of the financial crisis states are in, in may be a good idea to legalize it and tax the snot out of it for recreational use. I am sure the govt gets bookoo bucks from alcohol sales, cigarette sales, gas sales...you get my point.
Shevonne, I grew up in the 70's where tons of people smoked it recreational. The biggest side effect I noticed from others was general euphoria, and the desire to eat...Wonder if it would attribute more to the obesity in the world?

Marijuana is legal in California for certain medical conditions, and there are state regulated dispenseries. My 81 year old relative may start using marijuana, as suggested by his doctor, because his current medicines are not addressing some of his problems.
Many legal prescription drugs are also potentially quite hazardous, and addictive. I am so sorry that you or your friends and family have suffered from the pain of knowing people who have substance abuse. It is a very sad thing.
At the same time, I would not want to cut off discussion of a possible medical option, just as I would not want to cut off discussion of the use of supplements, diets, meditation, or other "non prescribed" treatments.
One of the valuable things about this board, for me, is the wide range of ideas, strategies and outcomes.

Harrigan, I have been very fortunate to not have had to live with any kind of substance abusers in my life. My heart goes out to you, as you both have to deal with the actual abuser and the ghost of the person they could have been without the substance.
One thing to remember for people who are still working is that employers can and will fire people using marijuana "medically." The abuse of the "medical exception" is so widespread that the few who are legitimately using it are assumed to be scamming as well.
Keep in mind that it will affect your driving, for a long time afterwards. I'm guessing your 81-year-old relative isn't driving any more.

The drying part is my only issue...cheez, remember 25 years ago when I was a youngster and trying it..couldnt believe how dry I got..

Hey there, I'm the one who mentioned the 81 year old relative. No, sadly, he's not driving, had has lots of extremely severe restrictions. This is mostly about pain relief near the end of his life.
Granted you shouldn't drive with marijuana, but I can't drive with many of the meds I take.
I actually have no personal interest in this med, the idea of trying to smoke something with my messedup lungs doesn't appeal. Just am leary of saying "let's not talk about that".

There were some interesting things on the FB page I posted this from. It states, for an FYI, that it can also be used in food, and digested. Not sure how it would effect you internally. Kinda wonder if it would be like an herb and not the same as smoking it??? if maybe it would work like a pain med??? Just a curiosity!
Marijuana has always been a hot topic as far as legalization or not. I do not look for an answer for that topic while I am still alive. Like others stated, some of the meds we take now are scary, but legally lethal, lol I am usually the one in one hundred that gets the adverse effects, just the luck of the draw!
I guess that we need to be able to introduce things that we read elsewhere for discussion here, and know it is not meant to be offensive to others. I respect greatly how others feel. That being said, we have the control on what we read and weather we want to follow that conversation.

i think it is legal in a few other states too..i know it really helps with cancer patients-the pain...but with my dryness it would be a nightmare..yikes..
I live in the "green triangle" area of Northern California and it seems like every other house is a grower for medical Marijuana. Its almost a joke. Noone even hides it anymore and practically grow it on their front lawn. All you have to do is go in to these special doctors and say you get headaches and two minutes later you have your certificate saying you can get it. For myself Marijuana only intensifies anything that is wrong or hurting on me so its the last thing I need.
Just my opinion:
It is impossible to avoid topics that might affect someone or bring up hard memories, since EVERYONE probably knows of someone that may have had a bad/negative experience to a particular medicine, treatment or even , condition...this might include illegal drugs. In other words we can't avoid talking about cancer or certain chemo drugs because someone close to an individual died and/or suffered. This is a forum to "discuss" openly all aspects of Sjogren's, pain, and other symptoms...and that includes ALL forms of pain mgmt.
I don't use marijuana for pain mgmt and have no intentions of doing so in the future, but understand that it works for some people in certain medical situations, so it's totally appropriate to discuss it here. It IS legal in many circumstances.
I am VERY sorry that some have family/friends who suffered from it's use and there didn't seem to be any intention to hurt others on this board. If the topic isn't suitable or comfortable for someone here, then please just move on to another thread. There is so much to read here, so many other options.
