Title: IVIG--two for the price of one maybe????
Post by: irish on August 28, 2012, 09:05:54 PM
Just a quick note to let you know that yesterday while at my infusion my immunologist was finally able to reach our pulmonary doc and visit about my hubby and his low IgG levels that have dropped signiificantly.

Hubby has been having lots of URI/chest infections for many years but they have intensified in number. Of course, with the COPD this is to be expected. Well, since 2009 it has gotten worse and I took him to my immunologist for an assessment of his celiac sprue, autoimmune colitis and peripheral neuropathy. We were totally surprised when his immune blood work was positive  or low.

Anyway, this since last September he has been on 16 series of antibiotics, 2 hospitalizations for double pneumonia (one with respiratory failure) and 2 ER visits. He always runs high white counts with these infections and is really sick. Anyway it was decided yesterday that hubby will be on monthly IVIG for this hypogammaglobulinemia and will do it on the same day as me.

On Monday doc said he had to get prior authorization and on Tuesday when we got home there was a message that the IVIG was approved. Fast work!!! I spend much of my time setting up antibiotics, prednisone, etc and other drugs for his various little blips in health status. I told him if he hadn't married a nurse he would be up a creek.

So another saga at our house. Once a person gets a chronic disease the change in life style never ends, does it. Keep smiling---can't do anything else.

Please don't bother me for the next 2 weeks. I will be watching as much of both conventions as I can. I am hopelessly hooked on politics. Could be worse, I could be a hooker!!! :o Irish ;D

It is keeping you the "Fighting Irish"... but, a sports game it is not  :-[

I hope your husband is in good spirits, please let him know prayers are being sent for both of you.

Why am I wanting to see a photo??? At the end with raised champagne glasses of "something" and wicked smiles.

He's a very fortunate man indeed, Irish. As we are too with you being part of this community.

I've missed seeing you the past week or so.

Glad the hospital is working for your convenience and comfort and healing. Praying for even more for you.

May the healing begin!!!!

Irish:

So,the family that does IVIG together, stays together?  Praying also for you and hubby's comfort and healing.

Isn't politics the "world's second oldest profession", right behind the "world's oldest profession"?   ;)

Oh,, I just read through my post---You can bother me all you want. I was just being a smark alec. I enjoy politics. My dad raised me to stay "in tune" with things and I can't get over it.

Thanks for the nice messages. Irish

Hello Irish - I'm sure your sense of humour will come up with some witticisms for when you are both being infused, but I do hope it results in better health for you both.

I would love you to put together your thoughts and recollections over the years... Your comments are always a real treasure and a challenge to us all to deal with life with some stoicism and humour.  Thankyou for all your encouraging posts xx Ailsa

Years ago a co-worker got me hooked on politics so I am right there with you.  I'll be glued to the convention coverage and commentaries the next 2 weeks.

Oh Irish - i'm sorry your hubby is so poorly. He is truly lucky to have you!

I like politics too. Enjoy the Conventions. Hopefully they will distract you from all that you have going on healthwise.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Irish,

Your post has such odd timing for me.  I was just tested (well, really it is a retest) for the Celiac antibodies this week, and I too got the surprise of my life.  After carefully eating gluten free for twelve years I tested positive for the antibody IgG.  And my white cells counts are always running high too.   I don't know what it means for me yet.  Any ideas?

I don't mean to compare myself with Mr. Irish, though.  He has really been through it all, hasn't he, in the last year.  I'm so sorry to hear this.  Both of you please take care.
