Title: No complaining unless you're having a colonoscopy because-
Post by: eyeamdry on August 13, 2012, 10:24:05 PM
I am doing a 24 hour urine "catch" with one of the "hats" tomorrow and Wed.  I just did one a couple of months ago and they said something was wrong, but it wasn't a clean catch anyhow.  I have to be a couple of places where no doubt I'll have to "pee" and am thinking of something I can take with me in my purse that would be big enough to hold my liquid.  A zip lock baggie no.  I'll have to look around here in the morning.

I realize this isn't painful, only a real trick to getting everything right.  Got to remember to put my jub in the frig.   :-* :o

Do what?!

What are they looking for? And is that the only way they can do it?

What a pain.

I know they make a female catch (like for femal pilots) and you may be able to get a urine bag from the medical supply, but it doesn't sound like you're going to have time for that.

I wish you luck and grace in your endeavor tomorrow.

Lucy, Maybe what they are looking for is the cause of you having to sleep much of the day. It will be interested what they find. I wonder how come it took them so long to get this 24 hour spec cooking. By the way, I hate doing this 24 hour urines. Storing urine in the refrig isn't up there on the list of cleanliness!!! Good luck. Irish

if you have time stop by your water department or a swimming pool supply store and ask for a water sample bottle,,,and ask them if they have any pre-sterilzed.   Or call1st...if they are not pre sterile, boil water at home put in thermos and rinse thourghly when you get your sample bottles...leave lid off losely to allow to dry...do not wipe dry...take a  small extra purse, satchel, lined with garbage bags,,if you have a small insulated case would help, put a cooler with icein car and place as soon as you go back there....or HOLD IT...  good luck Lucy!    `sass

It could be worse -- my husband had to do a 24-hour stool sample.  :(  However, he is pretty smart. He put a bunch of ice in a large bucket, but the collection bucket inside that, and a toilet seat on top of the whole thing, in the bathtub. We could draw the curtain on it.

My urine catch went fine.  I even went on two separate errands, one was to meet someone for lunch.  I was able to hold everything until I got home.

For females, they give you a "hat" you use under the toilet seat.  If you want to see one, maybe you can google it.  The urine pours easily from the "hat" to the jug.  You must keep taking the jug in and  out of the frig as this has to be kept under refrigeration.

I believe they are looking for protein in my urine.  This is the second test I've had recently by my rheumy.  I see her soon and will see if it's anything to be concerned about.  This particular medical test is nothing  compared to even a blood draw.  I'd never complain about this unless I had to do it on vacation or when I was still working.  Lucy

PS.  I must add that the jug was in a big bag with the hospital name on it.  It was as heavy as a jug of milk and hubby was not too happy when I asked him to carry it in.  I didn't make him get cleaned up for our errand so he owed me.

WoW!

You handled that really well - seems as if it was an easy thing. I've never had to do that, so to me, it sounds like a big deal.

You are one easy-going gal. Wish I was more like that.

Have they found anything out yet?

I had to do that a few years ago, and had to run some important errands that I was afraid I would need to use the bathroom.  I took a ziplock baggie that I was able to hold in place to pee into, sealed it up and put the sealed baggie into a tupperware container so I wouldn't have any "spills".  I carried it in an insulated lunch bag with an ice pack to keep everything cold!  Imagine if someone opened it thinking the were getting lunch!  Haha.

My only problem is with all the water I drink, the jug was almost overflowing by the end of 24 hours!

Nancy, I would have had "pee" all over me, none in the ziplock bag or container.  I would have managed some howl, but with all that urine, it doesn't seem one normal miss would make a difference.  I have not heard yet and I go see the dr in about a week.
