Title: Protein in urine anyone??
Post by: AAACGRL on July 26, 2012, 07:36:44 PM
I've been having issues with my bladder and possibly kidneys.  Today they did a u/a and it showed +1 for protein and bilirubin.  I have to see a urologist as well.
I do recall that I saw them around 2pm and hadn't had much to drink since early in the morning so I'm hoping it was just dehydration (doesn't help the kidneys, I know but if I have to go I'm in agony for hours).  I'd never been told I've had anything show up on a u/a test except an infection before so this was a little unexpected.

Bilirubin is the breakdown product of red blood cells, and causes that bright yellow color you see in jaundice. So the bilirubin suggests that something not good is happening in the kidneys, as does the protein.

You definitely want it followed up.

The +1 isn't high, though. Don't lose sleep, but get it checked out.
