Title: Gastric: Nexium or Dexilant?
Post by: iraisin on July 23, 2012, 02:46:05 PM
I had some serious stomach issues a couple of weeks ago (along with some other BS) and my gastro prescribed me Dexilant and gave me some samples.

The samples worked wonders and have been getting me by, but my insurance denied it and wants me to use Nexium for 30 days before they approve the Dexilant.

I'm a bit afraid, as I don't want to travel down the stomach pain path again - it was truly excruciating.

Have any of you used both of these medications? How did they rate with you in comparison to each other? What should I be prepared for?

I Am on the Dexilant after years on Nexium..when my doctor switched me over, my Insurance did the same thing. My doctor only had to call and tell them it was medically necessary for me to remain on the Dexilant...

Maybe give your doctor office a call and see if they can help  It really depends on what tihe diagnosis was when the docotor saw you last..   ~sass~

My doc file for a waiver with the insurance company, but they denied it and put this prerequisite of 30 days on Nexium before they would pay for the Dexilant, which would be $186 out of pocket for me otherwise.

I'll try it, and I suppose if my stomach goes back, I'll call my doc right away and tell him the Nexium isn't working and file another waiver.

I swear, I'm gonna get PTSD from this disease.

It is tough for sure.  The Nexium did work for me for a long time, but I guess my esophageal issues finally won out.  The dexilant does work much better, but you never know, nexium may do the trick..it worked a long time for me.

The cost however is an issue!  Wow!  But I do know how you feel.  I am having to pay Cobra out of pocket since I am unable to work..I still have not rec'd a penny of my short term disabiltiy.  But I am geared up for a talk with them tomorrow.  Thank goodness I had also bought the Hospital Confinement policy.  It has paid.  We starting to look at trees in a whole new way.  Looking kinda tasty.

The issues that go with the illness is often as bad as the disease itself.  Don't forget to  remember to   "KEEP CALM AND TRUST IN GOD"....

I like the jet ski idea...HAVE SOME FUN!!!  You can always hire the maid later.....FUN FIRST..CLEAN , WELL DON'T CLEAN...Hahahahah..snort   heeheehee...

SASS--You are a riot and i always enjoy your posts, especially when its about "snorting."  I think most of us also have a "snort" that slips out once in a while.  Lucy
