For those of you that were concerned, I requested a DEXA scan for the 25 of July.
That's good news, Joe. Please let us know your results.
Wishing you good bone health. ;D
Great Joe! Looking forward to hearing your results! Good luck!

Could I ask what a dexa scan is?
Sam.
Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA, previously DEXA) is a means of measuring bone mineral density (BMD). Two X-ray beams with different energy levels are aimed at the patient's bones.
I sure hope you get some answers. Do you feel that the reduction in bone density is brought on by disease or meds? Or is that part of the general query that is behind the Dexa scan?
I feel pains in my bones when I stress them in an odd manner.
Joe, I hope things go well, and nothing serious or anything, but good news comes from your tests.
susanep :)
Bad news today, appointment was cancelled because I was not referred by a primary care doctor. The request has been sent to him. He is the one that refused it before my leg shattered. So I am waiting to hear.
Well, crud. Maybe he learned his lesson and will approve it this time.
I got a phone message today from the Dexa department that they have not received a referral from the DR. and the scan was cancelled. I then got a call from the doctors nurse that he would not write the referral unless insurance would pay for it. I had to call the insurance company to find out that they will pay 100% because of my time in transitional care. I rescheduled my DEXA appointment. I plan on getting a referral from the doctor at 11 am today and going to my appointment at 1:30 for the DEXA. Arg!
Joe, There ain' nothing in this life that is free. Seems like we always have to work for it---even the darn doctors appts. Irish
When I got into the doctors appointment (11am) he did not want me to have it because it is expensive and insurance may not cover it. I told him my insurance will cover it and make the referral. Jan was with me and miffed about his response. The referral was made.
The DEXA scan was quick and virtually painless (my broken leg is still healing and complains about moving in some positions.) I was told it would be two or three days before I would get the results.
I was also told steroids and caffeine remove bone.
I wonder what vinegar would do? I have used it to make turkey bones unbreakable to the point of tying them in knots.
Joe,
There is a great book out there called - "Your Bones: How You Can Prevent Osteoporosis & Have Strong Bones for Life Naturally" by Lara Pizzorno. It is downloaded on my iPad and will be the next book I read. This book is recommended by people on the National Osteoporosis Foundation Support Community. I have been lurking for months and will soon join and post. They seem very nice and they have a ton of information.
You've done so much for me and the others here at Sjogren's World, I thought I would try to help you out. Please keep us posted.
Thank you.
