I went to the gastro armed with questions and as usual I left confused. I have an upper GI scheduled for October for my possible barretts esophagus but no lower. He does not seem concerned by my constipation. I am to take Miralax one time a day and up it until things get moving. I asked about magnesium and I am to try miralax first. He said my stomach felt better than ever and was pleased with the diet change and bowels until June. He indicated that it was just an autoimmune thing and could have issues with motility.
He is practicing under a new hospital so I was in this remodeled little room with him and a student doctor, a nurse and a student nurse. All eyes were on me. I had to explain the addition of zoloft and I felt like I was an experimental pig from autoimmune land??? Even though my rhuemmy says "sicca", gastro says Sjogrens. I still think I am getting scleroderma, I hope nothing comes from it.
I am not sure if I got anywhere. I didn't get myself cured. Just a little sad that my constipation is an autoimmune thing and I guess I have to accept it.
I am going to my son's baseball tournament this weekend and we are taking the camper. I guess I need to take my miralax, my "happy" pills and try to enjoy myself out in the hot sun.

Winnie, When we look for a cure we are always disappointed, sorry to say.
However, sounds like you gastro has things under control. At least he understands the motility issues and is keeping an eye on them. The scoping that you will have done doesn't take long. I had it done a couple times and had my esophagus stretched (dilated) some.
I am impressed with your gastros grasp of autoimmune disease. Some docs don't have a clue. Good luck and hope everything works. lol Pardon me, I just couldn't ignore that little pun. Irish
Irish - my gastro told me that he has a mixed connective tissue thing going on and is unable to take plaquenil because of side effects. Small world. I would have never known.
