Hi
My son has Crohn's Disease. Recently he's been having a bit of back pain. He had a scan of some kind and was sent to a nephrologist because the scan howed up 'echogenic kidneys'.
I've used a couple of search engines but haven't come up with much in the way of possible causes for this. Anyone know anything about it?
Thanks - Scottie
I'm sorry, but I don't know Scottie...hope his appt goes well and everything turns out to be ok! Keep us posted.
So sorry Scottie.
I just googled the definition: medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/echogenicity
It sounds like they found a bright spot for sure. Sounds like it's one of those bread crumb things that they will have to follow the trail to the answer. the spot in and of itself doesn't sound like a diagnosis of any sort - just an alert that they need to look at it.
My son, years ago, tore some muscoskeletal tissue. It released mioglobin through his system. it clogged up his kidneys and the bright spots looked like a cluster filled night sky. His liver count shot up to ~800 (should be ~60) and he turned gray. I was horrified.
Did they take a liver count? As I understand it, the liver count will go up when the kidneys need some backup help.
I know you are so stressed and worried. Our babies are everything. I am so, so sorry. Please keep us posted. You and your baby are in my prayers. Poor thing, Crohn's is already so tuff. Does he have an ostomy?
PS. I have no idea if I spelled anything right in this post, so pardon me, please.
Scottie
I know nothing about this, just wanted to tell you I have sent a prayer for him and you.
Keep us posted. ~ Joanie
Scottie this is about all I found.
Echogenicity is the way the ultrasound wave is reflected back to the transducer. Each tissue type, such as liver, spleen or kidney, has a particular echogenicity when healthy. If something is wrong, the echogenicity of an organ can be altered.
It sounds sort of like it may detect something, but the something could be nothing if that makes any sense.
I am not much help, but hope you soon find out, and he and you are in my prayers.
