I saw Sass's note about the Sjogren's contact just being a weekly talk-about. The Houston Medical Center is a big center and I'm not sure how many of you would be subject to having to come here for treatment. I am in the area, know the area, and can compile some info on the center, local ways of getting about, and safe, affordable areas to stay.
I don't know what each hospital has as far as patient services, but it wouldn't be difficult for me to call and find out. Also, there are charities and churchs that I'm sure offer support.
So what I am asking is, what information would you all like to have? It may take me a bit, but I am happy to put something together. I can't imagine what Sass went through -- how lost and desperate that must have made her feel...ON TOP of feeling awful.
So what do you think would help you if you were traveling here for treatment?
Also, Moderators, can I post something like this?
Just wanted to thank you for your generous offer to help.
Hi Iraisin,
That would be nice! It would be great if we could have this info in all the bigger Sjogren treatment areas. I have a list from the hospital social worker and the places I called if you would like them, let me know.
Gayle
Thank You !
That's very nice of you, iraisin! I just want to add to anyone that might find themselves in the Houston area and need sudden emergency treatment... do not go to Women's! Thank God my baby and I made it out of there alive...
Here's some things I think would be really useful:
a list of hotels/motels in the medical center that offer discounts to patients/family
a MAP! I lived IN the medical center for a year, and those roads are CRAZY!
a list of hospitals, their ratings and specialties
restaurants in the area (I know there are a million, but the GOOD ones ;D ) I do NOT recommend Pappadeux's, for example!
stores in the area (Kroger, Wal-Mart, Target) for all those things we always forget to pack... of course, I think there's a Walgreens on every corner!
Sass!!!! So good to see online. Fix'n to read your post as soon as I'm done w/this note. Thank you, Father! I thought about you last evening and this morning. I prayed your nerves stayed strong for you and mercy's wings carry through this journey. So, so good to see you online.
Gayle, please, If it's not too much trouble.
MsHistory, thanks for the suggestions...keep on thinkin'.
Not sure yet how to post this so it stays ready and relevant for folks when they need it, so input on that too would be good. I may even put a package together for the local Sjogren's Foundation so they have something when people call. It will at least be a good starting point for them if they do adopt adding more than a talk-about.
