Hi all!
Quick question for those of you who take fish oil to help with dryness....
How much/how often?
Also, does it mess with your digestive system at all?
I started taking it (just the recommended dose on the bottle) a few days ago. Not helping yet, but I have had lots of gas an very loose stools since then. :-[ sorry tmi I know! I was just wondering if this is normal or if I am just lucky!
Hi Jen2,
Maybe your just lucky :-\ or maybe it is coincidence. I took fish oil because my eye dr said to use, it would help. I switched to Flax seed oil as the Dr said it was better for SJS. I just take the recommended amount on the bottle. I also take coconut oil to help with the brain fog... :) Good luck!

I take 2 capsules twice a day. Be sure to take them with food or they will not be absorbed. You need a little bit of fat in the food. I take 1000 mg capsules.
Hi
I read in here that someone took 6000mg per day. My opthamologist recommended that I take it but didn't suggest an amount. I decided myself on 3000mg per day. I do think it has helped.
Take care - Scottie :)
I take flaxseed and evening primrose. The ratio of omega 3&6 is important. See this article: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12442909
The fish stuff really gives me reflux and makes my breath, sweat, pee, everything smell awful! Plus, it's animal based...can't do it on a regular basis.
I take 2000mg of Flaxseed and 1000mg of evening Primrose. My dr. prescribed (yes, wrote out a prescription) for D3-1000mg/day.
more info on evening primrose (O6) and omega 3 oils and the proper ratio of them: http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/omega-6-000317.htm
Yes! they help me very much!
PS. all my meds including these supplements have been reviewed and approved by my doctor.
Thanks everyone. :D
I will definitely read those articles, ty!
keep in mind, that diet matters. I don't eat fast food, processed foods, or animal protiens. So taking the 6 with my 3 does help it absorb. Food is just like medicine, it is all chemistry and relates to your body in that way. So everyone's body needs its own mix depending on how it is built.
knowledge is power, gain it everywhere you can. Discernment is a blessing, pray for it and exercise it.
Hi Jen2.
Years ago I tried to take 2 fish oil caps a day but it was hard on my stomach..made me burp...even buying the kind that says it won't.
When I got sjogrens it was recommended in a book I read to take flaxseed oil.
I take 2 1200mg capsules a day....with no ill effects

I take 4000 mg of a prescription fish oil called Lovaza. My opthamologist gave me the rx. I have no side effects whatsoever from it and it does seem to have helped, esp with my dry eye.
