I was on a little excursion to northern MI over the weekend to an inlaws graduation. God, there are a lot of them. !! Next weekend we are going again to another northern destination where TWO inlaw graduations are taking place. They are beginning to do them in pacts. One relative "up north" had given us a chair with electric boost on it. We had to take our pickup up there to bring this back home. I had no way of knowing "how this would look in our living room." I just bought a big ugly grey sofa and I noticed this boost chair was dark and gloomy also. In fact, it was a close match. We got the chair not because we need it, but because someone had given my SIL a newer, better boost chair and I could use this one. I don't need one, but they were here about the time I had gotten my new knee.
This takes up to 1/2 of the living room across and it has to be at an angle to "lift." I am beside myself. They do not come here only once a year or so. If I could put it in a corner by or in front of the front door and give it away after a couple of years, that would work. Next time, I will not say YES TO BE NICE. NO WAY.
Tomorrow, I didn't tell you guys, but I am prepping for a colonoscopy on Wednesday. I am doing an alternative prep as I done a prep in March for 2 days and was so sick at 5 am, I could not go to get the scope done. This one is a one day prep with a little easier on the prep. Hope I can go 24 hrs and more without eating will you all? Lucy
Oh, Lucy, a big grey chair to go with the couch! ;) Unfortunately, the thing sounds huge. Suppose the "giver" was trying to be nice thinking you could use it; OR they wanted it out of their way. ::)
Good luck with your prep tomorrow. By any chance are you able to take the pills and drink loads of water with it? I can't remember the name of that medication, but I had that one for a prep and it wasn't bad at all. (as preps go) At least no chugging of yucky-tasting stuff.
Keep us posted. ;)
Lucy - so, now you have an "almost" matching set of ugly grey furniture. :D
Can't you just use the lift chair as a "regular" chair? My mom had two of these kind of chairs and yes, it does need room away from a wall to do it's magic. The ones I've sat in aren't all that comfortable - the back seems too stiff and upright, not cushy and comfy.
Actually, they don't sleep too bad. ;) I just came back from a visit to my dads and I slept in this chair for a couple of nights.
Good luck with your prep work and colonoscopy to follow.

My colonoscopy is doing ok so far, the prep I mean. About 6 months ago I was prepping and it made me so sick, I couldn't go in for my appointment. This one is 4 dulcolax tablets, 1 bottle of citrus something about 12 oz, I also take a couple of enemas in there. No the enemas don't bother me, because my longtime colon doc used them, so I am used to them.
This chair is for now as much in the corner as we can make it. My hubby is not thrilled with it and is sitting in another chair, which is unbelievable. He can take it back a little bit and a semi-recline and still watch tv. His old recliner is gone. I had planned on buying one that would fit him (we are rather small) but got a gigantic one that sits about 3 feet in the air. This chair makes my sofa look beautiful, but I couldn't have gotten a closer color match if I'd tried. This will be a conversation piece.
Please think of me tomorrow as I have my colonoscopy about 9:30. I joke about the prep, but this is dead serious with me as my older sister died of colon cancer in 2009 and I have a history of polyps. I have these done quite frequently. Lucy
Lucy that is funny about the chair. I have had some experience with that myself with furniture.
Good luck on your procedure.
susanep :)
Will be praying for you that goes well.
Lucy, oh, no the colonoscopy prep. I did Moviprep, just fresh in my mind from two months ago. It was a night of living heLP. I did the evening prep, thinking that I would be able to sleep, but I was awake all night, in the bathroom every few minutes. In the morning, I could not finish the whole thing but I knew what the "result" should look like. So I knew that I was fully prepped, even thought I didn't get the whole thing drank.
My tummy hurts just thinking about you today! Everything will go swimmingly! Good for you for taking care of your health!!!
I am liking your new chair, too, ha ha. Take care, babe! Pick something extra yummy for afterwards to eat. I chose a yummy veggie burger and onion rings from Red Robin. My husband was good enough to get it for me on the way home.
Okay, I gotta say it - at least you'll have a comfy place to put your poor, sore bum after the procedure... ;) ;D :P ::)
(Seriously - I hope it goes well...and is quick and painless!)
Ahhh....yes...the colonoscopy prep work.
The worst part of the whole ordeal.
I can barely get that big jug of horrible tasting stoff down without vomiting.
A co-worker got so dehydrated from both ends during her prep...she had to be given IV fluids first before her scope.
Couple of years it's my turn again.
Good luck Lucy on your prep and your scope.

I don't know why they tell us to do the prep in the morning at the time they do. It leaves us unable to leave the bathroom to make the trip to the hospital.
I just do the second phase at least an hour to hour and a half earlier. We don't get to sleep anyway so might as well get it over with. We have to drink a lot more fluid than people think.
I drink like a fish but my hubby isn't a good drinker so I always have to keep at him. It is such a pain to get dehydrated during a colon prep cause it cost more money to get a person in shape for the scope. Good thing is we get to sleep through it these days. Irish
This time, the prep was different. I will not describe it, but it made a difference to me. With my history of polyps and losing a sister to colon cancer 2 years ago, my record is not good. Funny thing is each time I have a colonoscopy, I have one more polyp than the last time. This time I actually had one less. He took out 4 polyps and given my history, that's what I'd think of as normal for me. I go back in 3 years for another one. If I have problems before that, I will see him. Gosh I miss my old "rectal" guy. He retired on me and we were about the same age. This is what I have to look to with my drs.
ABOUT THE CHAIR My husband thinks they were trying to get rid of the chair by pawning it on us. They have kids that live right there and why didn't they take it? Well, we are older and I have trouble with my knees, but I can get up from a chair. It is very hard and hubby is used to a much softer recliner. He uses this one a little, but just jumps in and out of it without using the cord. My house is so small to tuck this in a corner or anyplace. My corners are all taken up.
I believe we will wait a short time and then buy hubby a new recliner that he can sit in and not jump up to. We can donate the chair to a senior citizens center, or any place that can use it. Will confirm that it won't be sold for profit. We will see the SIL and BIL this weekend again, the ones who gave us this monster. We had to take our truck on the 400 mile round trip to drag this thing home. Someone please come and steal it from me.
I am also ticked off at two relatives who 'DO NOT LIKE PEOPLE TO KEEP ON AND ON ABOUT THEIR ILLNESS. This was I told my colonoscopy results.. This was my only living relative besides my daughter and she was nasty. Always has a message in her speeches, always a hidden meaning, except it's not hidden. If I say anything, then she goads me more. Also, other one is SIL above who SAID THE SAME THING, but not about me, about a BIL who almost died twice last year and is in his 70's. She thinks he should get over it and move on. I told her that sometimes ppl need to work through things. She didn't buy it I need to get away and think I can next week. Lucy
Good luck, Lucy! ;) Will be thinking of you.
For all of us who will need another colonscopy down the line, I will suggest the medication I had with my prep; brand name is OsmoPrep. It's not an awful-tasting liquid. It is a prescription of a total of 32 tablets.
You begin the evening before the test by taking 4 pills every 15 min. with 8 oz. of any clear liquid each time. Yes, that's the hard part for me; drinking that much right away in an hour. Later, you take the other 12 pills (4 at a time) with more 8 oz. of liquid and you're done by around midnight!
The pills don't have any taste at all. Of course, the prep does the job it's intended to do and you're still in the bathroom but little discomfort with it. And there's nothing to drink in the a.m.
The only negative I've heard is that I'm not sure if Medicare will cover the cost.
Glad you're feeling ok, Lucy. :D
Sounds like the chair won't work for you and hubby, but I must say that's a great idea about possibly donating it. Like you say, maybe a Senior Center or a local nursing home if you have one close by.
These chairs were a "hot commodity" around the assisted living center my parents lived in. When my mother became more ill, she really needed one of these chairs. She had no strength to get up.
My husband and I were trying to figure out how we could buy one since they were quite pricey and we didn't have the money at the time. Turns out someone donated a lift-chair and Mom was able to use it. Just a thought; you may be real blessing to someone in need. (and be rid of the big ugly chair, too) :D ;)
Melinda
Mel- That's exactly what I have in mind. There are many needy folks who would love this chair and I'll sure find one.
Colonoscopy My colonoscopy was done with little fanfare. I was awake through the whole procedure, but not silly like I usually get. They found 4 polyps and will do a biopsy, but think they are nothing. Go back in 3 years. Am glad that's over. Having a new dr for that wasn't for my pleasure, although I liked the new dr just fine. Lucy
Glad everything is ok!
Hi Lucy :)
Glad its over for you. Sounds like its gone OK. Feel better soon!
Take care - SCottie :)
Lucy,
Good deal about donating the chair. ;)
I'm so glad your procedure went well. I'm sure you're happy to be done for 3 more years, and glad your doc was ok, too!
Take care of yourself :)
