Title: Some Success with Weight Loss
Post by: Carolina on June 11, 2012, 06:48:45 AM
Hi dearest angels,

I'm at that hard (well they are ALL hard) part of weight loss.

I've lost about 20 pounds, but have 25 more to go (at least).

I've been attending Overeaters Anonymous meetings, twice a week, and tracking my food on LoseIt.com.

OA is really the only way I can lose weight and keep it off for any time, but only as long as I continue to attend meetings and follow directions.

Well, I did lose weight once with diet pills and before that when I first started smoking (which I stopped years ago).

I'm a real addict in behavior when it comes to food.

I feel better (of course, but don't you hate when people say you'll feel better if you lose weight).

I just wanted to put this out there.

Also I think I have another UTI, but I'm not sure.  I'll see the Nurse Practitioner at my doctor's office this afternoon.  I hate going in when it turns out NOT to be  a UTI.

But I can be asymptomatic for months and have a chronic UTI.   I just never know, and those home test strips ALWAYS test positive for a UTI, evidently from my Interstitial Cystitis effects.

So I've been achey and now headachy for over a week, and finally realized that I'm having more than usual pain associated with my bladder.   But who knows.

Anyway, I'm happy about the weight loss, tho more focused on just staying 'abstinent' (which is abstaining from compulsive over eating and compulsive food behavior)

I'll keep you posted on my various conditions.

Hugs

Elaine

Good for you Caroline. It is hard to lose weight. I love to eat also and with diabetes it really cramps my style. I have to admit that I think my diabetes pill does sort of cut down on my cravings for food, however, ice cream is always needed on a daily basis.

I used to eat high carb foods when I dieted and would lose weight. Seems like it changes the way your body metabolizes food. Loved the fat free cheese and pasta with tomato sauce. I also found that eating no red meat helped keep the weight off.

It is different for everybody that is for sure. With that much weight loss under your belt you are well on your way. I need to lose another 20 pounds but am not inclined to work at it very hard as I have company coming in a month and will have to cook a lot for a few days.

Keep up the good work and get over the UTI. Irish

Congrats on the progress, I have been trying to lose that last bit of extra weight myself and have sort of hit a brick wall. It happens to everyone I guess. Although I have only worked on portion control rather than "diet food" because I know most of that stuff is expensive and gross and I will end up eating something else anyway.

I have this thing about not wasting food which makes me clear my plate even if I shouldn't. I have found the most success by making sure not to put too much on my plate to begin with. Also, I bought smaller plates and utensils. It's now tough sometimes when I go back home and my parents put three pounds of food on my plate and get offended if I don't eat everything.

Keep up the good work.

Caroline,

I think you need to give yourself a pat on the back.   ;)  Losing 20 pounds is no small task, and it sounds like you are going about it in a healthy way.

And feeling better is sure incentive to continue on.

I'm very proud of you!   ;D

Way to go!  I am very happy for you!  You should feel very proud.  I used to have a borderline eating disorder, where I would go days without eating much then binge then exercise like crazy.  I would taste and chew food but spit it out in the sink, never swallowing.  I'd eat a whole pie like that.  Good grief!  I got over it without any real trouble when I got therapy for low self-esteem and anxiety.

I put on about 15 lbs with my last pregnancy, not really losing any of it over two years.  Now, I am on the "autoimmune disease flare diet" where my appetite is gone.  I have lost 5 lbs in the past month.  I am still an emotional eater, but my exercise and tennis habits have been able to keep things in check for the most part, until now--no tennis.

I know how hard it is.  Thanks for sharing with us!  HUGS!
