Hi  :)

There are various websites like Flickr and photobucket that host photos. They are free to join and then links can be made. Um - it's about 2a.m. and I'm not thinking straight! Someone may well explain better.

Take care =- Scottie  :)

I can't see your photos but any type of garden style would be liked and appreciated by me.

Do you have birds and butterflies hanging about?

Thanks for the advice, Scottytottie.  Somehow I knew that but totally forgot until you reminded me.  LOL  I'm not sure the best way to share it.  But I put both the link and the imbed on here so maybe one of them will work.  Oh I do wish Eye2dry.  But no I don't have butterflies or birds.  Probably because I have one really nosey kitty who managed to get in half of the photos even though he refuses to pose for his own photo and the service dog that managed to get into two of them even though she is really good at staying out of the way.  Speaking of tho... you should have seen Spike the vampire cat nosing the succulent.  It's all velvety like a horse's nose and he was just loving it up one side and down the other.  I thought he was going to bite it or something so I was watching him really close but he quit when I got out the camera.  Not sure how good my camera clarity is but that is one amazing plant.  It's got these tiny soft hairs all over it like nothing I've ever seen.  I had to have it.  But I heard plants don't like to be touched so kitty needs to get his nose off it.  LOL :)  GG

I love it!  It's nice to surround yourself with plants, no matter how you do it.  You've created a nice relaxing area for yourself that is not too big to take care of but is big enough for you +1  ;D.  I hope it brings you much enjoyment and peace!

You know a few years ago I planted a "victory garden" that is 900 square feet using ONLY recycled stuff that I found on the side of the road.  Trampoline nets, old decking that didn't use pressure treated wood, chunks of fencing, metal poles.  And the best is I filled the boxes from our township with compost that was made from recycling leaves and stuff.  It isn't beautiful by Better Homes and Gardens' standards :P, but it is functional and free.  And I love it  8).  Now if I could just get out there and prep it!

Missy Lou Who--- Oh I like that idea... I don't know if you guys could tell, but I commandeered one of the recycle bins the city issued me to be a rain recycler.  Don't worry I'm still using the other one for the paper and plastic recycling but I needed water down on the patio and my apt is upstairs.  I was having to haul water down one pitcher at at time from upstairs and it was exhausting.  I love reappropriating things for a good use.  GG

GG, the rain barrel was a smart idea.   And I love your purple calla lily!

Now aren't you inspired to go dig again, Missy!

I have to admit I keep peeking out the window at my poor neglected garden  :P.  Maybe just ONE bed wouldn't be too hard?  That's a lot of digging and shaking out old roots and new weeds.  Maybe my kids will help.  Today is their last day of school and they'll need/want something to do anyhow  ;)

Yes, I'm limited by having to pot everything, but I'm actually sort of glad because there's very little digging involved.  I don't think my poor hands could handle digging.  :'(  The trick is going to be getting all of this hauled upstairs and indoors when it gets cold.  I may have to devote my entire shelving unit to plants.  But I think it would be nice to have my little garden indoors this winter.  At least the parts of it that can survive that.  I've been thinking maybe a sun lamp could work.  I have a uv lamp for depression, but I think I'd need something more like the heat lamp my nephew has for his snake.  Plenty of time to plan for it.

Btw, my calla lily and indoor orchid are fading fast.  Any green thumb advice could save their little leafy lives and would be greatly appreciated.  I swear these guys are becoming like pets to me.  It really saddens me to lose one.  GG

Indoor orchids don't like wet roots, so it's better to let them dehydrate than over water.  I am no sure the exact watering schedule but it's something like soak the plants' whole pot in a bucket of water for a few minutes then let it drain completely in the bathtub once every month or two.  Something like that.  And they like indirect sun, not direct.  And they need to be sprayed with water every day, several times in dry climates.  I think calla lilies bloom once then die back until next year, no?

The indoor grow lights are very different than heat lamps.  It's actually the spectrum of the light's rays that they need, rather than the heat.  There are gardening forums that tried to coach me through it but I just can't manage to get them to grow right  :-\ so I gave up ::)

Windowsill herbs and forced bulbs are a lot of fun and perk the house up in winter.  I have forced amaryllis and hyacinth. It's really easy.  You need a forcing vase which looks like a clear plastic flower vase that someone put a belt on a squeezed around the middle making a reservoir for water in the bottom and a cup on top for the bulb to sit in without touching the water. The vase is open in the middle so the roots can 'sense' the water and reach down to get it.

I hope this helps some!

How about one of those tabletop Zen gardens?

You can do a sand type, terrarium (sp?), bonsai or whatever as the possiblities are endless.  And the work isn't much either.  ;)

Honestly I spent $40 making my mom one for her birthday in April and then saw them in Dollar Tree for...yup...$1.  ::)  I spent so much because I had to make her tools since they were out of them and bought a wooden box to use.

If you choose to make your own, AC Moore had a bag of sand (the kind for doing sand art) for like $2 and you can get little garden tools from the dollhouse miniatures section.   Lots of fun  8)
