My dentist gave me some biotene toothpaste to try and some anti-oxident oral gel to help some inflammation on my gums. I think I'm having some kind of reaction to them? My mouth is sore and the glands at the back if my mouth get even more painful and inflamed the next day.
I've gone back to my usual toothpaste for a couple of days and not used the gel, then try them again to see what happens and the pain comes back. Sometimes my gums bleed with the toothpaste too. (yes, I :) ).
Has anyone else had a bad reaction to biotene toothpaste and/or an anti-oxident oral gel?
biotene toothpaste is the only kind I can handle! if I use any other brand I have mouth ulcers within 24 hours.
If I had your reaction though I think I would be inclined to return to my old brand!
FYI- Biotene products have both milk and egg in them. Not sure if that would cause your reaction.

That's interesting! It's the only one I can handle. Have you looked online or contacted the makers? Everything else including mouth washes, give me the worst mouth ulcers ever.

My Rheummy told me to avoid all Biotene products as they can cause flares. Go figure...
Sorry your having mouth issues and Biotene seems to make it worse.
I use all Biotene products with good results...my dentist put me on to Biotene products with free samples and coupons.
My husbands oral surgeon told him when having canker sores,etc...to gums or anywhere in the mouth it was good to gargle with diluted hydrogen peroxide.
My grandmother always swore by gargling with warm salt water.
If you have a persistant sore in your mouth...bring it to attention of your dentist or PCP.

Someone posted a few weeks ago about natural alternatives to Biotene. I couldn't find the thread. There were a lot of good suggestions there .. and additional products as well.
I don't care for Biotene myself.
For toothpaste, I use NOW brand.
Search under Alternatives to Biotene products and it will come up. If that doesn't work, search Winnie and it is under my posts.

Hi LouLou1981. I used to use Biotene but I developed another autoimmune disease (lichens planus) in my mouth which made most toothpaste including Biotene impossible to use - they burned and irritated my mouth. I've gone through a lot of toothpaste brands and found only one I can not only tolerate but I think is helping. It's called TOOTH BUILDER Toothpaste and it's made by a company called Squigle (only one "g").
I bought it online at Amazon but I've found several other places online to buy and some were cheaper. Also I found forums on Lichen Planus and found a lot of them were using and recommending this toothpaste.
The plus is it doesn't have any of the common, but irritating ingredients normally found in toothpaste - such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) or flavoring. I actually like how it tastes, LOL if reminds me almost of whipped cream - that mild sweet flavor of whipping cream.
The only negative is it has no fluoride. On their website, they recommend using a fluoride based toothpaste once a day and TOOTH BUILDER the rest of the day. They do have their version of a fluoride toothpaste called Squigle Toothpaste but it has peppermint which I can't tolerate. My dentist has me applying fluoride gel, using my teeth guards - the same treatment dentists do in their office - at home to give me fluoride that the toothpaste doesn't have. Some other members here have posted that they are allergic to or avoiding fluoride.
