Hi :)
I posted a couple of weeks ago that I was going to stop tramadol. I do NOT advise anyone else to do this without going to their doc.
I didn't go through my doctor because I am trying to visit them as little as possible and I'm bl**dy minded. I also knew I was meant to taper off them. I didn't - I just stopped.
I'm happy to say that the withdawal symptoms I experienced were minor. I was geared up to expect the worst because I'd read up about it first.
I'm wondering if I am among a smalll group of people who are 'opiate resistant'. I've never found morphine to help with pain - it just makes me feel sick and incoherent and docs think its working because I can't articulate that it doesn't help pain. Oddly enough when my son was hospitalised with Crohn's they had to give him something other than morphine because it didn't touch his pain either.
Well I expected to experience increased pain levels with lack of Tramadol. It hasn't happened. The pain levels have remained the same. Still taking paracetamol and resort to NSAIDs (which I'm not meant to take) when things flare.
Maybe I didn't have severe withdrawal symptoms because it wasn't doing much in the first place. I had a weekend of sniffling, sneezing and gut-ache and about a week of feeling a bit down and disorientated - but that was it.
Sadly it doesn't seem to have stopped the hot sweats, which was my main reason for taking myself off it. I think maybe I've slept 5 hours in a row instead of three though - so that's a positive.
Thanks for listening. Take care - Scottie :)
I'm glad to here you were able to get off it safely.
Good for you Scottie! My Mom took herself off Oxycodone (sp?) and Oxycontin and now uses Tylenol! Don't know how she swung that miracle at 80 yrs old!!! I'm happy for you!
Good job Scottie. At least you found out that you can still get along without it plus that it was not what was causing your night issues. Now just wonder what in the heck is going on. I hope that you can solve this mystery. Good luck. Irish
Howdy Scottietottie, Glad you have one less medication to take. I hope you will continue to improve.

I tried tramadol and it didn't help me either. I'm happy to hear you didn't suffer from withdrawal symptoms!
Hooray! It always feels like an accomplishment to drop a med. And since you know your body, you were able to do it safely!
