I am new and I am not exactly sure how all of this works.  I have had Sjogrens for about three years. What I am now experiencing after I have tried plugs for my eyes which did help, Evoxac and Plaquenil which seemed to cause my head to itch so badly 24/7 I had to come off of it for a week to see if this was the culprit.  I have used tar coal shampoo, salycytic acid shampoo, and a shampoo with zinc in it.  I purchased a UV hat and my head is still itching.  My dermatologist, rheumatologist and my doctor of internal medicine says there is nothing else they can do for me.   WHERE AND I TO GO FROM HERE I can't stand this 24/7 itch.  I have had fibro for 25 years...HELP!!!

Sorry, trem221.  That sounds terrible.   Is it possible that the  shampoos were too harsh?
I had itching scalp for 2 or 3 years and taking plaquenil helped  calm it down . We are all so different.  What works for one may not work for another.
It is also less itchy since I stopped coloring my hair.
If  I had had your question Friday, I could have asked to doctors at the Walkabout.
You could try posting your question on the  Discussion Board with the subject of itchy scalp; or you could "search" for it in the top right hand corner of the page.  There is a lot of information here.

One supposedly UV hat I purchased had a non-UV protecting top; the brim was designed to protect eyes and upper face from sun, but the top of the hat did not do so. I now have Mountain Hard Wear hat with SPF 50, that does reduce itching.

Sources of head itch for me are not just sunlight, but the new compact fluorescent light bulbs that save so much money. I have replaced all my CFL bulb with the old-style incandescent bulbs, but I have to wear the sun-protective hat indoors at, for example, the CVS store, doctor's offices, grocery store, physical therapy "studio", lectures at the University -- my old department. I must admit that the idea of looking strange at the lecture attended by a lot of colleagues meant going hatless, and toughing out the following four days of itching head --deliberately.

It is an awful symptom; my favorite dermatologist asked me about sun sensitivity, and just nodded when i mentioned the scalp itching. So wonderful that a doctor actually got it.

I hope you find relief,
