I found this and really like it:
"When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow--
You may succeed with another blow,
Success is failure turned inside out--
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit--
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit."

My grade 9th English teacher said something to me that I always think of when things seem like they will never get better. She said, "And this too, shall pass". And you know what? She's never been wrong ;) You just have to think of whatever it is in a different way. SJS itself won't pass per se, but the flares will. Just have to focus on the end of the flare.
Hello MissyLouWho? and thanks for sharing.
I found more on that quote that you shared...
"It is said an Eastern monarch once charged his wise men to invent him a sentence to be ever in view, and which should be true and appropriate in all times and situations. They presented him the words: "And this, too, shall pass away.""
~ Abraham Lincoln
Be well.
Together
I support you one hundred percent,
One-hundred and ten, is what I actually meant.
I'm here for you, whenever you need,
Your expectations I hope to exceed.
Tomorrow is something, together we'll deal,
If pain follows us, together we'll heal.
The actual process may be quite slow,
Through this journey, together we'll grow.
In the end, the challenges we face,
We won't run away, instead we shall chase.
Whatever happens, I know you will win,
To the blue sky, point your proud chin.

May the stars carry your sadness away,
May the flowers fill your heart with beauty,
May hope forever wipe away your tears,
And, above all, may silence make you strong.

Thank you for the poems I love them! Keep them coming, good thread! :)
Be The Best You
We are perfectly imperfect
and beautiful within
because beauty isn?t skin deep
it?s deeper than the skin
We are who we allow ourselves to become
we get what we give, we give what we get
so give it your all
and don?t ever give up
Be the best you
be the person you want to be
just remember to be yourself
not who others want to see
This day is yours
it belongs to no one but you
put one foot in front of the other
and take a step closer
to making all your dreams come true
You are perfectly imperfect
and this is okay
because no one is flawless
no one is perfectly made
You are beautiful within
and your smile reflects
the love inside your heart
So, share a grin
and let others see who you are
Be the best you
just be who you are inside
be the person that makes you happy
and live your best life

You Can Do Anything
There?s a mountain before you
One you feel you can never climb
The distance is frightening,
but I know you can make it to the other side
If only you try
I?ve seen the strength
that you carry inside
I?ve seen the will, the passion
the fight in your eyes
I?ve witnessed your ambition
I know you can do it one more time
You can do anything
You can be anyone
You can be happy, too
But first you must believe
in the power of you
You?re powerful,
valuable, beautiful and brave
And I know that you know
you can make it through tomorrow
if you can get through today;
I will be there for you
every step of the way

I am glad you started this thread :).
To Risk
~William Arthur Ward
"To laugh is to risk appearing a fool,
To weep is to risk appearing sentimental.
To reach out to another is to risk involvement,
To expose feelings is to risk exposing your true self.
To place your ideas and dreams before a crowd is to risk their loss.
To love is to risk not being loved in return,
To live is to risk dying,
To hope is to risk despair,
To try is to risk failure.
But risks must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.
The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing.
He may avoid suffering and sorrow,
But he cannot learn, feel, change, grow or live.
Chained by his servitude he is a slave who has forfeited all freedom.
Only a person who risks is free.
The pessimist complains about the wind;
The optimist expects it to change;
And the realist adjusts the sails."

My Mother's Favorite Prayer
God grant me the Serenity
to accept the things
I cannot change.
The Courage to change
the things I can
and the Wisdom
to know the difference.
My Grandad liked that prayer Susan! :)
He also liked a rhyme:
Life is mostly froth and bubble
Two things stand like stone
Kindness for another's trouble
Courage in your own.
Take care - Scottie :)
IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
Rudyard Kipling

You Create Your Own Reality
A quote from one of my heros, Tony Judt, late of NYU's Remarque Institute, who suffered from ALS and never let it stop him for a minute: "There is something to be said for simply doing the thing you would do anyway, doing it as well as you can under the circumstances, and getting past the sympathy vote as soon as possible."
Read a little about Tony in this article written by his wife for The New York Review of Books: http://www.nybooks.com/articles/archives/2012/mar/22/tony-judt-final-victory/?pagination=false
Laugh your heart out.
Dance in the rain.
Cherish the moment.
Ignore the pain.
Live. Laugh. Love.
Forgive and forget -
as life is to short
to be living with regrets.
Be The Best of Whatever You Are
Douglas Malloch
If you can't be a pine on the top of the hill,
Be a scrub in the valley - but be
The best little scrub by the side of the rill;
Be a bush if you can't be a tree.
If you can't be a bush be a bit of the grass,
And some highway happier make;
If you can't be a muskie then just be a bass -
But the liveliest bass in the lake!
We can't all be captains, we've got to be crew,
There's something for all of us here,
There's big work to do, and there's lesser to do,
And the task you must do is the near.
If you can't be a highway then just be a trail,
If you can't be the sun be a star;
It isn't by size that you win or you fail -
Be the best of whatever you are!
You can outdistance that which is running outside of you but you cannot outdistance that which is running inside of you.
(African Proverb)
