When you go visiting do you sleep well? I know I sure don't. I like my own bed with my covers. I have all my things that make me confortable all arranged so I can get to them easily in the night. I have my humidifier just where I want it. I think that with SJS you don't sleep well a lot so being in your own familiar surroundings is best. I try not to stay away from my bed if I can help it.
This is so true for me too. My bed is made for me by me special order. I have an Earthing sheet that I lay on, the top sheet is a regular sheet, a cooling blanket and two cooling pillows. I sleep in a moisture wicking nightgown made for menopausal women who suffer from hot flashes and night sweats. It seems weird to be seeking moisture due to the Sjogren's but needing moisture wicking gear due to menopause.
Then there is the humidifier on the dresser, the fan on the floor, my sleep goggles I wear, the carpal tunnel supports for my wrists and the Breathe Rite Nasal Strips since I've started snoring for some reason.
I musn't forget my mouth guard I wear due to teeth grinding, the Genteal nightime ointment for my eyes and the Biotene Oral Balance I coat my teeth with before I put in the mouth guard.
And, lastily, thanks to someone who recommended it here and I love, the CeraVe moisturizing lotion I put on my hands followed by my white gloves I put on before the carpal tunnel supports.
I have all my night time things such as my Gen Teal ointment, nasal spray, and lip moisturizer arranged so I can get to them without any light. I have just enough pillows and they are broke in just right for me. I have put night light so I can see if I need to get up. The bathroom is very close. And my mattress has a place just right for my tush. My husband's a truck driver and sleeps in a different hotel each night. I don't think I could do that. I also don't like getting my eye ointment on anybody else pillow cases.
I have to travel for training for my work a few times per year and always hate going.
It means a week of little sleep and usually I return ill.
i live on a farm WAY out in the boonies. no light and dead silent at night. I awake at the hint of any sound, a car driving by, water in the next room turning on.Also the lights, any city lights alter my sleep making my brain think it is daytime. No earplugs and masks seem to work.
Makes me the worst homebody ever!
Earplugs help me a lot when I am away from home - I sleep so lightly that any unfamiliar noise wakes me up. I also usually take a sleep aid - something herbal, or - more often - Advil PM. The antihistamine in it dries me out even more, though, so I also use Xylimelts.
If you are in a hotel and can't have a humidifier, try draping a couple of wet towels over the air vent - it helps a little bit. And run some HOT water in the shower to release some steam. If there's a coffeemaker in the room, running some water through it (run it as usual, just don't put any coffee in there) several times will also raise the humidity in the room a bit.
My hips bother me, so I always ask for a couple of extra pillows - I need to throw my leg over one when I lay on my side.
I hope some of that helps...but the real answer is, NO, I do NOT sleep well away from home, LOL. But I try!!!!!
I don't like sleeping away from home either. For all of the reasons mentioned above. I wear earplugs at home, plus my Tranquileyes, OraMoist in my mouth and all the other things we need near by.
Lighthouse- Could you explain your sheets/blankets/nightgown or give a name where we may check them out?
I don't even sleep well at home :( I wake up so many times during the night and Benadryl used to be helpful to at least get me a few consecutive hours of sleep, but thanks to SjS, I can't take it anymore unless I REALLY need it for allergies!
Last weekend we were in a hotel. I had 8 hours of shut eyes in 96 hours. I missed my recliner and couch.
This weekend I came home to rest. I have lost track of time by being up and down so much. I finally gave up trying today at 6 am. I have to repair some broken equipment before I return to the convention this morning. I am freeing endorphins for people that come to see me. I have been asked not to help people heal again.
Several massage therapist have asked me to show them my technique for a quick massage (Manual Muscle Stretch). They are bringing a table for the demonstration.
Since my diagnosis 18 months ago...the only place we have stayed all night has been my inlaws. They live approx 3 hours away.
I take all my lotions, potions and gadgets with me. I have not had trouble sleeping there. The 3 hour drive, sitting around talking and taking a tour of their property...I am "out like a light". I yawn about 8pm and go lay down by 9:30am.
I would like to go to our favorite bed&breakfast in St Augustine Florida this september....that will interesting to see if I will be able to sleep every night I am there.

Oh my gosh - I have an awful time trying to sleep away from home. Let's face it, I have trouble sleeping as it is, even at home with all my "supplies" handy.
I travel for business and never do seem to get used to it. I used to pack a pillow since I hate the whole idea of hotel bedding, but I had to use a large suitcase and it is so hard to manage. Putting a large suitcase in and out of trunks, into hotel, etc is so hard on my sore joints and bones...
The one small thing that helps a bit is a small white noise maker I have to block out the seemingly endless hotel noise...

The only time I have trouble sleeping away from home is if the bed I have to sleep in is not comfortable for me. Sometimes I have slept better in another place cause the mattress was more comfortable than mine. That basically is what it is all about for me. Just the comfort of the bed.

No, I don't. I just spent the last 5 days in a hotel for my daughter's wedding and I am totally exhausted from lack of sleep. This week will be all about rest.

I can sleep anywhere, any time.
Unless I'm cold.
I can't sleep at home half of the time so why would I sleep when I'm not? Actually, it is about 50/50. I either can sleep for hours upon hours or I can't sleep at all. No rhyme or reason. Although, I do notice a pattern with not being able to sleep more as my menstrual cycle draws near.
