I wish that surprised me - but it doesn't. Candies - sugar in many processed foods and various sodas are to blame I reckon.

This is surprising.  I will read the entire article later, but I'm guessing that sometimes early dental care has been lacking in some families. 

In all fairness, however, with more people without insurance coverage in the US, it makes it difficult for some to get their children to a dentist early in life for preventative care.  Hopefully, this will change in the near future.

I had dreadful teeth as a child myself.  All I ate was sweets.  My parents werevery neglectful.  To me if you cause this much damage to a child you are abusing them.  There's no excuse.  Feed them proper food.
