Sips vrs Chugs of Water - I dont work with Sips - Ive gotta Chug !!! my doctors keep insisting I dont need to drink that much water (im up to 20 to 30 glasses a day) - They say I only need sips to keep mouth and throat moist - but if I dont drink that amount of water my eyes nose skin get even drier - ive made several trials to see if I wasnt kidding myself - Who else has the same issue ?
I am aware of water intoxications but I dont have those symptoms.
I am aware of rinsing out saliva with water which in turns dries you out some more - But the reason I drink so much is because of the dryness on mouth AND because If I dont drink that much water I feel like I have a hangover and get headaches, my eyes dry up more, skin too etc... So Im feeling all donfused on whether I should drink or not drink was much water :S
Maybe I should talk also about external factors: I live in a tropical country - so there is much heat - I dont have air conditioning or a vaporizer in my room :( (money issues) - Live with my parents so Mom cooks with a looooot of salt and doesnt allow me to cook my own food :S - hehehe (grown up parents its her kitchen)
Do you all think maybe I should drink Hydrating Fluids like Gatorade or stuff like Pedialyte ?
I dont want to feel a hangover!
Hi Virgi,
That sounds like an awful lot of water. Probably the high sodium in your moms cooking is not helping your sjs. I do get that feeling of wanting to guzzel water sometimes too especially in the middle of the night. But started drinking sparkling water during the day a lot. You cant really guzzel that because its too fizzy, and I find it quite refreshing. I switch between club soda, pelegrino, talking rain ect.
That is a lot of water! I can see why you might feel as if you had a hang over if you are dehydrated, but I would think that 20 to 30 glasses would take care of that.
Diabetes comes to mind----have you had your glucose level checked?
If you add Gatorade, you'll ingest even more salt. Just be aware of your symptoms so you don't get too much water. Drinking ONE glass at a time may help. Drink only what your body can absorb.
Sip, Swish, Swallow
I don't know how much salt your mom is putting on the food, but if you have to drink 20-30 glasses of water a day to dilute your body then it is time for Mom to let you either cook for yourself or cook a separate meal for you.
Salt is very necessary to sustain life, especially when you live in a tropical climate, but too much salt and drinking all that fluid has got to be hard on your system. Your kidneys must be working overtime to keep your body in sync.
I drink the carbonated spring water also as it cuts my mucus and seems to quench my thirst better than regular water. I also always have lots of ice as I seem to need the cold to quenchmy thirst. Make sure to sip slowly and sort of monitor how many ounces you are drinking a day.
I went through a particularly difficult period where I drank so darn much. I kept telling the doc that I needed to be checked for diabetes and he would check--once in a blue moon and my blood work was always ok.
Finally, I got sick and ended up in the hospital in another town with an infection. I showed sugar in my blood and finally got the diagnosis of diabetes. I think that all the water and ice I was drinking and chewing was natures way of diluting the sugar in my blood and that is why the diabetes didn't show up until just the right circumstances.
I suck on sugar free candy a lot and use lots of body cream. Good luck. Irish ;D
