Title: Restatsis
Post by: SonicEm on March 06, 2012, 10:02:58 AM
Anyone have a burning sensation when using Restatsis? I just started yesterday and it kept me awake part of the night. I heard that putting regular drops in before and after the Restatis helps, and keeping in the the frig so it's cold.

I'm going to take a break using it to give me eyes a chance to recuperate. Any luck using this? Should I hang in there? Does it really work?

That is a prime side effect of the drug.  Mine stopped after a few weeks and I still get the burning sensation when I am on a dry flare!

Hi Sonic,
Try and stick it out, restasis has really helped my eyes. Been on it for a year now and at three months is where I started to notice a difference and at six months i was able to start cutting back on the regular drops.  Mix the vials good before you use them by turnin then upsidedown and back a few times and tbat might help to.

Definitely refrigerate them, too. But then, I never had the stinging. Sharon

You are so lucky! Is was so bad last night I could not sleep for while.

I contacted a oompounding pharmacy - it may be possible to compound the Restasis without the castor oil component. This seems to be the ingredient most likely to cause the burning. I called and they are researching it right now. Will let you know what I find out. It may be too expensive to do as well.

Yes, I get the burning too.  It didn't for the first two weeks or so, then it started  ???.  Make sure you don't use any other eye drops for 15 minutes prior to using the Restasis, and then wait 15 mins after the Res before you use any other drops as well.  Has nothing to do with the burning, but just something I wanted to make sure you knew since this eye drop has so much to remember!  Like someone else said, SHAKE WELL!!!  I notice a big difference in comfort if I shake well first.  Like the burning part separates to the top and more gets in your eye if you don't shake.

Also, I saw my opthomologist today and she said that the Restasis actually making my eyes feel drier and more irritated is rare but it CAN happen and to stick with it.  I'll see big improvment within 5 more months (been using it for a little over a month).
