Title: Res eyes
Post by: P.Trish on March 05, 2012, 11:46:06 AM
Are your eyes constantly red, no matter how often you are using moisture-drops? I heard that Visine (get the red out) is not a good thing to use

Sjogrens Syndrome = the gift that keeps on giving.

Yes I put in drops from the time I wake up till the time I go to bed and my eyes are still red.  Now add insult to injury its March and I suffer really bad from spring allergies.

Do NOT use Visine! Your eyes are already very vulnerable, and the cheapo eye drops contain a preservative that will eventually damage your cornea.

I threw the Visine in the trash!

The whites of my eyes are gray where they aren't red. I think white eyes are so pretty. I always look at people's eyes, the way other women look at other people's shoes!   ::)

Anything that says "gets the red out" is a no-no for our eyes. I used to know the names of some of the preservatives, but I've long forgotten.  I just know we are better out without them and preservatives can damage our eyes after a period of time.  Doesn't mean they will, but who wants to take a chance?

The preservatives aren't the biggest problem with "get the red out" drops, it's the active ingredient Tetrahydrozoline HCl which is a blood vessel constrictor and, in addition to reducing the size of the blood vessels can increase dryness on the surface of the eye!

This is also a drug which, when given internally, can drastically reduce blood pressure, induce violent diarrhea, nausea or vomiting. Granted it's only in the eye drops at a concentration of 0.05%, but it's not a chemical to be trifled with!

My eyes are always red, but they've gotten a lot better since I switched to preservative-free drops and started using them frequently (at least once an hour, more if I'm at the computer for a long time).
