I have a lot of problems sleeping comfortably - I can't sleep on my back (post nasal drip), and when I sleep on my side, I get a lot of pain in my hips. So I turn over and sleep on the other side til that hip hurts, and repeat throughout the night. From what my husband's said, I turn over about every half hour or so. And I wake up when I do it, as I have to re-arrange pillows that support my sore knee, etc.
BUT NOW - I have a new mattress topper, and I am sleeping much better. It's about 2 inches of memory foam, on top of my fairly firm mattress. Makes a huge difference - I have a lot more comfort, and have a lot more uninterrupted sleep.
Cost <$100US. Much cheaper than a new mattress.
So.. for those of you who have pains when lying down, something to consider.
Thanks for the idea. My hubby wants to buy another mattress again. Maybe we will look into a topper. Do you find you sheets still fit well?
No problem, but I did already have the "deep pocket" sheets that are made for thicker mattresses
warmwaters@ glad you found relief. I had the same problem and we bought a new mattress with a very thick pillow top. It has worked wonders for me. Life is too short for a bad mattress - especially when you have serious aches and pains!

I have same problems. We got a new comfy pillow top mattress and got the pillow topper for it. It is so comfy now. I sleep a little better. I do love to go to bed now. Especially with my new soft electric blanket.
We have discussed getting one of the memory foams like you have for the guest bed cause I sleep in there when the grandbaby is here. That bed makes me hurt. I will definatly go get it now that you say it works good.
Thanks for the tip

I've had a mattress topper for about 5 years now. Same thing...two inch foam. Love it. We moved it to the camper for awhile because we had bought a new mattress. Just wasn't the same without it. We brought it back. My husband kept saying we needed a firm mattress so we got a firm mattress with a cushion top. I would lay there and ache all over. Adding the topper back on helped!
