Oh Valene,
When I am feeling like that, I force myself to get outside. It gets me out of my head. I dont know what your climate is like where you are, but bundle up or put on sunglasses and get outside for a short walk.  The air and light will do wonders for the soul.

Valene, I am married, so I'm not alone and this might make a difference.  I don't think mine is depression, although it could be.  I have many days when I stay in my pj's all day, sometimes for several days in a row.  If I don't have something to make me go someplace I just might lie on the sofa all day.   I say it's more fatigue for me, but then again if I was so smart - I wouldn't be on here hanging around.  I'd be busy.  Lucy

Have you considered SAD (seasonal affective disorder)?  It's very common during the winter months.  Sometimes a little artificial light (for a small boost of natural vit. D) is all it takes, if you can't get outside.

What about a small project in the house?  Even something simple like changing furniture around for a fresh new look.  Then pick out a new book (something uplifting or fun) and sit under your natural light.  just a thought.

Right now the weather has put me in a down mood.  All I seem to want to do is sleep.  No sun and this cold weather just gets to me every time.  We've been expecting our first bad weather of the season starting tonight and into tomorrow.  I think everybody is dreading it and is a little depressed.  After the last 2 winters we've had we were hoping we wouldn't have any freezing weather this year.  I also think people with SJS tend to have depression easier because of how we feel.

I always feel that just going to the grocery store or the library---especially the library can lift my spirits. There are magazines and all kinds of books and people that you can just chat with---even just a few words. The librarian that checks out the books enjoys chatting a few words.

There is something about talking and hearing the human voice that causes a person to connect and feel better. Another thing I love to do, now don't laugh, is look up real estate for sale in different states and countries. I love imagining home in my head. Checking the measurements of rooms really makes it interesting. The pictures are great and it is fun to see how much a home costs in different areas.

If you are in a major depression you may very well need to see your doctor and get some medication to help improve your mood. You will also be better able to cope also. Good luck. Irish

I can relate. The winter months are really hard on me. Usually by spring, I feel a lot better.

As I expressed on the social forum, I too am having a real tough time right now.

I got out for a while and did some grocery shopping even tho it was freezing outside. It was good to get out.

I don't have the option of me-time which would help tremendously.

Dearest Valene,

I have a SAD light and it sits next to my bed and I use it all winter long.

We do get sunlight, but the days are short and I need lots and lots of light.

You don't list your meds.

Do consider an antidepressant.  It takes trial and error to find the right one.

I take Cymbalta because it's ON LABEL for many other conditions including the pain of osteoarthritis and peripheral neuropathy.

It is key to get up and about a bit.

I like to have a 'quest'....something I  need to get outside for.

Movement and a purpose, however small, can make a difference.

Keep us posted.

Hugs

Elaine

Carolina, a quest! That's exactly it!

I go to work full time all week, but on weekends I can barely get out of bed. I think you've hit the nail on the head, my friend --- I need a quest. A weekend quest.

I always have the hangover-carsick-flu when I first wake up, but I get to feeling better after a couple of hours or so. On the days I go to work, I'm usually fine after about 10 or so.

But on weekends, I hang out in bed or on the couch until about 12. Then it's too late to plan anything.

What I need is a weekend quest!

Any ideas?

How about an appt with your hairdresser for a haircut?  A manicure?  Pedicure?  Lunch with a friend at noon sharp.

Hi Valene.
I felt like you once...it was a winter I wasn't working (d/t dr. selling her practice), I got to the point I was a full time pajama wearer.

I went to the library to hang out to read the paper, walked the mall all around and one great thing that helps you and others..I went to my local nursing home and hung out in their lounge and just talked to whomever came out...they offered me a job there but nursing home work is not for me, very strenous and bad hours.

get out and about till the weather breaks.
hope your black clouds lift soon.

i just joined a knitting group tho-and yes they meet at a donut shop with bad lights but i take my pill andtry and sit not direclty under a light--it meets every thurs and i plan on going to get me out of the house..
and we knit hats for cancer patients and preemie babies.. i needed something like this..  :)

valene, There is an antidepressant called Wellbutrin that doesn't cause dryness. I think it is one of the few that doesn't.You might want to try that one. Glad to hear that you have been pushing yourself up and about.

Sometimes we just have to do that for ourselves. Winters are always a challenge. Keep it up and please see a doctor. Irish ;D
