hello all SJS folks.
After work yesterday I had a dental appt. I called that am. to get in..I had a complaint.
The white filling the dentist just put in less then 1 year ago on my lower molar has broke off. I said...the filling should of lasted longer than that!
I rarely got cavities..this defective filling was to just replace an older filling.
Imagine my surprise when I got there...the filling is just fine..my weak tooth broke off! I guess my decrease in saliva finally caught up with me and my teeth are not as strong as they once were. Even though I use flouride and biotene products.
My dentist has smoothed off the edges of the break and I need to get a crown soon because of this.
Now my teeth are betraying me.

I have complete sympathy with you. since September I have had four 'teeth' (what was left of them) fall off fillings. I had a root extracted last week from which a tooth had sheared off and the dentist reconed she really couldn't do a thing with it other than take it out. It's left me with very few chewing surfaces. Eating is now a nightmare! Luckily I like soup.
Take care - Scottie :)
I just had one pulled because of this.
I think that broken teeth are one of the many hazards of having SJS. i know before I had SJS my teeth were healthy and had few cavities. Now over half are crowned. And my filling seems to fall out easily too. I think I should just go and have the dentist check things once a month just in case. Boy would my insurance love that.
I have had 2 teeth crumble on me. Fortunately I was living in Thailand so I managed to get them repaired at very low cost. That was 4 years ago and repairs are holding firm. It's a good idea to stop eating all sugary products.
Hi eye2dry,
Oh boy, I'm sorry to hear that you're now dealing with the "mouth mess"; its miserable I agree, and if you have a good dentist, thats half the battle. Sounds like you have a good one and keeping my fingers crossed that nothing else happens.
Yeah, having a dry/drier mouth that sure makes going to the dentist an adventure. :-\ I so feel your pain.
Hang in there and take care of yourself -

Up until about 10 years ago, I had 5 cavities my Entire Life!!!!
After that (which was probably when SJS really set in), I'd get 3-5 Per Year!
Hopefully your dentist understands. Mine just shakes his head and tells me to brush more. ::)
Hello again
Since I last posted another filling has fallen out of a tooth. It was only put in the day the other tooth was extracted. I'm totally fed up with having teeth! Dentures sound appealing!
Take care - Scottie :)
Oh, for Petes Sake Scottietottie......
you need to buy some shares in a dental company that makes material for fillings and/or dentures.
LOL

I know you think all your teeth are fixed for now and then you look in the mirror and what do you see but more chipping. I looked today and what did I see but 2 new chips in 2 front teeth. SJS sure does a number on your teeth, doesn't it?
Even though my mouth is very dry, I thought my teeth weren't too bad. But I had a crown out in last year, a bridge the year before, and now another broken tooth too!
So eye2dry and scottietottie - I understand.
My tooth broke off a couple of days ago. I know it will need a crown. But because of my surgery, I can't drive for a while and I'm going to have to figure out the logistics. (like can they fit me in when I can get someone to take me, ugh, having to ask for more help) I just thought, oh no, not this too . . . Or should I say, not this tooth . . .
I'm sorry to hear about your tooth Scottie, what is the dentist going to do? Replace the filling again? Crown?

Haven't contacted the dentist yet. Will probably phone tomorrow although a bit of me is tempted just to leave it and cobntact her if it ever starts hurting. It seems to be mostly round the back of the tooth - and doesn't show.
Take care - Scottie
ps - did not mean to hi-jack this thread!
Yeah, understand Scottie, just had a crown fall off... Between broken & cracked teeth, just what I didn't need. ??? Oh well, its back to the dentist I go! ;) :D

That's got to be it Joe! ;) :D See a periodontist tomorrow and the dentist next week. Whew, if its not one thing its another! :-\
