Title: Generalized Non-Descript Muscle Pain / Sore & Achey Muscles?
Post by: Woolygimp on January 17, 2012, 10:33:34 AM
I have been feeling rather run down lately.  I seem to wake up with non-descript pain, almost like I can't pinpoint exactly where it's coming from other than it feels like my muscles.  And it's all over.

It really feels like someone beat me down with a baseball bat and that I'm just extremely sore and achey... and fatigued.  I really hope it's not fibromyalgia as I'm only 25... but it hurts so bad some times.  It's amazingly difficult just to get out of bed and do things and it really puts any activity that I want to do in a negative light.

Small doses of painkillers knock it right out and I feel 10x better and feel like being active again and forget the pain, but man it really sucks sometimes.  Everytime I feel like I'm getting my life back, I wake up like this.

I also have been excessively sleepy lately.  I fell asleep at 6pm sitting up in my chair and my friend said he'd never seen me do that before.  I think it may be because I'm not getting good sleep feeling like this? But I'm not sure.   Blah.

The pain only comes from my muscles too, never my joints.  It just feels so similar to getting beat up that it's amazing.  As strange as it sounds, I'm actually rather hoping that it's inflammation (or a thyroid problem?) and not fibromyalgia because there's not much to be done for the latter and I don't want to deal with long term use of painkillers or anything.

Can anyone relate to this and was there anything that you did, any medication, that seemed to help?  Does it sound like FM or just inflammation?

Lyme or Fibro would be likely.

Been tested up and down for Lyme disease from the real labs and it's always come back negative.   :(

I've known about FM for a while but I'd never have guessed that it could feel like this, if this is what it is.  It's been going on for about a year now...  maybe longer.

You know what's weird Joe?

The pain only comes on when I'm cold.  If I start exercising, moving a lot,  turn on the heater, or if I'm in an environment warmer than around 78+ degrees, then the pain goes away.

It makes me think it's my thyroid because of it... the pain is usually worse the colder I am.  I like to turn on my A/C at night and get the house around 68-71 and that's when it usually hits me, when I wake up.

I don't think I've ever really noticed the pain when I'm active.  But sometimes it hurts so bad that it's hard to even get out of the house.

Just something really weird that I've noticed.

That sounds like my fibro symptoms. Still if you think there is thyroid involvement you should get that checked out. I try to keep the house at 72-74 in the winter. In the summer, the cooler the better. I think the cold helps fight the sun trouble with Sjogren's. There are supplements, meditations, and exercises that can help with fibro.

I am no expert, but that sure sounds awfully familiar. I have been diagnosed with Fibro, and you described how I feel to the letter.

None of the "fibro" drugs help and many I cannot tolerate. I use good old fashioned pain meds like tramadol or aleve. It takes me an hour of sipping coffee and trying to get moving in the morning, before I can even shower and dress...

Good luck to you.

I think it's fibro as well.  The pain I experience from my thyroid disease does not disappear with exercise or temperature change.  In fact I am intolerant of warm temperatures.

My rheumy told me just yesterday that I am the master of my Fibro (or at least 75% of it or so).  He said if I get up to doing cardio 45 minutes a day/5 days a week then the pain should lessen considerably.  So that may describe why you feel better when you're in action.

My fibro pain feels like deep bruising in the muscles.  It is also not like joint pain.  My suggestion would be to NOT get on Lyrica; it made me fat and I'm going to wean myself off it per my rheumy's advise (who didn't prescribe it in the first place and says it is not worth taking.)

What really helps me is doing physical therapy with what they call "ultrasound stimulation."  It involves electronic pulses that go deep into the muscle.  Takes the pain away for a good two weeks.

Good luck!

I am sorry you are in this pain. I have low thyroid, but many years later my fibro kicked in, and I feel just as you described. I end up having to rest a lot between any activity.
