Title: cervical MRI...anyone had one?
Post by: rudytudy on January 16, 2012, 08:06:39 PM
My Neurologist and Rheumy had me get a cervical MRI today...I'll meet with them on Friday for the results...anyone ever need to get one and what did they find?   They are looking for lesions with me.   Thanks...

I had a cervical MRI about 1 1/2 years ago. I had the dye contrast. Mine was to check the vertebrae in my neck as I am having increased hyper reflexes when the neuro does the hammer check on my legs.

They can tell a lot of things as mine showed the brain also. I think they include the brain also because of the proximity to the neck and because of the need to use dye. Can check for several things at the same time. It takes about 1 hour I think. More I less I can't remember exactly except that it is not a quick- in and out deal. Good luck. Irish ;D

Funny you ask!  I'm having one this afternoon. Not for lesions, but for disk and neck pain. Hopefully that's all they'll find.

Yep, Rudytudy, I've had a bunch of MRI's.

They found severe osteoarthritis, no lesions.

Further Nerve and muscle conduction studies found both nerve and muscle damage in my cervical spine.

I, however, do not want surgery because:
  1) it doesn't always work to improve things, the odds aren't that great.
  2) it can make things worse
  3) it won't stop further deterioration

I hope your MRI goes well.

You will have to lie very still for a long time.

I keep my eyes closed, and imagine that I am lying on a blanket on the beach (yeah, with my arms over my head?, well I try).

I had three MRIs and 2 cat scans in one very very very long morning two years ago.

Hang in there.

Oh  you've already had it?  Silly moi.

Hope it turns out ok.

Hugs

Keep us posted.

Yes, my neurologist sent me for a cervical MRI. I was having hyper-reflexia of the knees.  It showed some disc bulging in the neck.

I also have a mildly pinched nerve of the lower back along with some degenerative disc disease.

The best surgical results in the nation for the neck (1990) is 15%. That 15% is that the patient remains the same or gets better. So 85% of the time the patent gets worse. Do not let them talk you into this option.

When the contrasting dye was injected into my spine, it contained sulfuric acid (1987) and left me paralyzed from my waist down. Years later when I could no longer legally respond and records had been destroyed, I was told about it. It took a few years for me to learn to walk again. I am better off than most that had this happen.

I have to go Friday for an MRI on my back.. I had xrays last month and she said it indicates degenerative disc disease so now she wants the MRI..
